Chapter 148 The Clouds Are Red
Chapter 148 The Clouds Are Red
Ji Anni was half asleep, and suddenly she dreamed that water was flowing up from her feet. She was running in a space without any barriers and with no end in sight, and the water was flowing higher and higher under her feet. The huge resistance of the liquid made it almost impossible for her to lift her feet. She subconsciously looked down and found that the waist-deep water was red.
It was blindingly red, sticky red, and gave off an unbearable fishy smell.
Ji Anni screamed in fear in her dream, but the blood surged at that moment, creating a huge wave that rushed towards her.
With a short scream of "Ah!", Ji Anni woke up from her dream.
There was a dense layer of tiny beads of sweat on her forehead, and her limbs were extremely cold, especially her fingertips, which were so cold that she could hardly feel anything.
I subconsciously looked out the window. It was already getting light outside and I could vaguely hear some voices, probably the palace maids who got up early to clean the yard.
"Die'er...Die'er, Huarong..." Ji Anni sat on the bed, leaned forward slightly and shouted towards the door.
She didn't know what happened last night, Huarong and Die'er didn't come back. She asked other palace maids in the right courtyard, and they all said they didn't see the two people. Ji Anni wanted to go out to look for them, but she was afraid that Huarong and Die'er would be worried when they came back and didn't see her, so after hesitating and procrastinating for a while, it was already midnight. Even if Ji Anni wanted to go out to look for them, she was afraid of disturbing other ladies in the palace, so she had to give up. By the second half of the night, she couldn't bear it anymore, and wanted to lie on the bed and take a nap, but she fell asleep due to excessive fatigue. If it weren't for the nightmare just now, I'm afraid she would sleep until noon.
After Ji Anni shouted a few times, there was a sound of light footsteps outside the door.
"Empress, are you calling me a servant?" Hua Rong's voice came from outside the door.
"You're finally back. Where's Die'er? Was Die'er with you last night?" Ji Anni jumped off the bed in a hurry. Last night, she climbed into bed without taking off her dress. Her clothes were wrinkled and her hair was a mess, making her look a little sloppy. But now she finally knew that Huarong had forgotten to take care of her appearance after returning, so she subconsciously opened the door and pulled Huarong into the room to talk.
"Empress, why do you look like this?" Hua Rong frowned as soon as she saw Ji Anni and hurried to the closet to find a change of clothes.
Only then did Ji Anni realize that there was another figure by the door, it was Die'er.
Dier's eyes were dark and she didn't look very well. She must have not slept well last night.
"Die'er, what's wrong with you?" Ji Anni asked her worriedly.
Die'er probably didn't want to make Ji Anni worry, so she shook her head, walked into the room, and helped Huarong prepare clothes for Ji Anni.
Ji Anni stood behind them and asked, "By the way, what did you do last night? Why didn't you come back in the middle of the night?"
At this time, Hua Rong had already brought clothes to Ji Anni, and while helping Ji Anni change her clothes, she replied, "I'm sorry to have worried you, Your Majesty. Actually, we were tidying up a small garden behind the yard yesterday. It's a bit remote there, and I'm afraid no one else saw us. We were busy until the evening, and we were so tired that we fell asleep leaning against the fence, and were not awakened by the cold wind until the middle of the night. By then, Your Majesty had already fallen asleep, and we didn't dare to disturb her."
Huarong remained calm and spoke calmly. There was nothing suspicious about her expression and tone, but the content of her words was a little unbelievable.
Ji Anni tilted her head and thought for a while. Although she didn't doubt it, she subconsciously asked, "Is there a secluded small garden in the right courtyard?"
Hua Rong said: "Of course there is, but no one has taken care of it for many years, and weeds have grown inside."
So Ji Anni didn't think much about it, turned her attention to Die'er, and asked, "Die'er, are you too tired and didn't sleep well? Both of your eye sockets are black, why don't you have a good rest today?"
Die'er said nothing, but just shook her head silently.
Hua Rong said on Die Er's behalf, "Don't worry, Madam. She probably had a nightmare and didn't sleep well. It's nothing serious."
"Are you really okay, Die'er?" Ji Anni always felt that Die'er seemed to have something to say to her.
Die'er raised her head tiredly, and finally managed a faint smile to respond to Ji Anni, as if to say that she was fine.
Ji Anni sighed softly, thinking that she was just too sensitive and worried, and didn't think about it any further. She just said casually as if chatting, "Speaking of nightmares, I just dreamed that I was drowned in a sea of blood. It was because I was too scared that I woke up from the dream. Strangely enough, my heart is still beating fast, and I always feel that something is going to happen... It's really unlucky."
"Your Majesty, don't scare yourself. It's just a nightmare. Maybe you've been too tired recently." Hua Rong advised softly.
"I also hope that I'm just too tired..." Ji Anni sighed uneasily, walked to the table, and poured herself a glass of cold water. But as soon as she picked up the glass, her hand shook violently for no reason.
There was a crisp "pop" sound, and the cup broke to the ground.
"My queen, be careful. Did you hurt your hands?" Huarong and Die'er hurriedly picked up the broken pieces.
Ji Anni shook her head blankly. It was strange that she didn't know what was wrong with her. Her heartbeat was getting faster and faster, and she couldn't seem to calm down. Her originally peaceful state of mind seemed to have been stirred up by the sound of the cup falling to the ground.
Somehow Yun Zhen's face appeared in her mind, and Ji Anni subconsciously rushed to the window and pushed it open!
The sky was already red, the rising sun was floating over the eastern mountains, and red clouds covered the mountaintops.
It was a very ordinary scene, but somehow, Ji Annie's face suddenly turned pale.
She was so scared that she took a step back, and even her pupils began to shrink rapidly. If Huarong and Die'er hadn't arrived in time to support her, she would have fallen to the ground.
"Empress, what's wrong?" Hua Rong saw Ji Anni's pale face and became nervous too.
Ji Anni slowly raised her hand, pointed at the red glow outside the window and said, "Look... Look, look what that is..."
Hua Rong looked in the direction of Ji Anni's finger and said in confusion: "My lady, that is the rising sun and the morning glow."
"No..." Ji Anni shook her head dully and murmured, "That's blood... That's Yun bleeding..."
"Empress." Hua Rong suddenly realized what Ji Anni was afraid of.
"Hua Rong, did you see that? That's Yun bleeding, it's Yun Zhen bleeding... Yes, it's Yun Zhen bleeding." Ji Anni grabbed Hua Rong's sleeve like crazy, and she didn't even know what was wrong. She was just scared, very scared. The pain of being drowned in the sea of blood in her dream reappeared clearly, and she was so scared that she almost suffocated.
Hua Rong quickly closed the window, stood in front of Ji Anni and said, "My Lady, that is the glow of the sunset, it's nothing serious."
"No..." Ji Anni shook her head gently, let go of Hua Rong's hand, turned her gaze to the door, and murmured, "Something happened... I know something happened, I know something must have happened..." After that, she rushed out the door as fast as she could.
"Empress!" Huarong shouted and tried to pull but failed.
Ji Anni had long disappeared.
"Empress! Empress!" Hua Rong shouted and chased after her.
