Chapter 225 Dream
Chapter 225 Dream
A row of dried vegetables hung under the eaves, and the window paper had tears from the wind, showing that it had been repaired with paper and rice paste.
Stepping inside, a scent of herbs wafted through the air. Although it was an earthen house, it was kept quite clean and tidy.
On the square table in the middle of the main room was a ceramic pot containing the dregs of boiled medicine, and next to it were several cold steamed buns.
"Cough cough cough..." A series of rapid coughs came from inside the room, followed by a somewhat hoarse voice: "Dongzi, is that you back?"
“It’s me, Grandma.” Dongzi replied as she ran into the inner room: “Grandma, I brought the doctor back.”
“Dongzi’s family isn’t very well-off.” Dajun stopped and explained, “Please don’t look down on us, esteemed guests.”
"How could that be!" Long Chuqing said calmly, "If we disliked it, we wouldn't have come in the first place."
"That's good, that's good." After hearing Long Chuqing's words, Dajun seemed relieved.
"Why don't you wait for me outside?" Long Chuqing turned to Xiao Han and said, "If too many people go in, it might disturb them."
"I'll go in with you. Qing Tong and Qing Ying, you two wait outside!"
"Yes..." the bronze and green figures responded in unison.
Dajun walked to the door of the inner room and lifted the dark blue curtain: "Please come in, both of you."
The light shining through the window revealed the inner room, where an old woman, wrapped in a thick coat, was half-lying on the kang (a heated brick bed), curled up in a somewhat tattered quilt. An empty medicine bowl sat on a low table beside her.
On the other side of the kang (heated brick bed), lying quietly with his eyes closed, was Dongzi's father.
Dongzi looked at the old woman who was shivering slightly and asked with concern, "Grandma, are you cold? I'll go add some more firewood."
He got off the kang (a heated brick bed), bypassed Long Chuqing and the others, and quickly ran outside.
When Dongzi's grandmother saw someone come in, she struggled to sit up. Her gaze was somewhat confused as she looked towards the doorway, carefully trying to make out the three people in front of her.
"Is this... the army coming?" Her voice was a little hoarse from coughing.
“Auntie, it’s me.” Dajun quickly replied, and walked towards Grandma Dongzi: “How are you feeling since you came in? Are you feeling any better?”
"I'm fine, old woman, but I'm sorry to have troubled you to make this special trip again today."
"Not at all, it's just a trip I'm making, it's nothing troublesome," Dajun replied with a smile, reassuring the old lady not to worry.
He turned around to look at Long Chuqing behind him and introduced him to the old woman.
“Auntie, this young lady is the doctor who came today. She heard about Dongzi’s father’s condition at my shop and offered to treat him for free.”
“Oh…” The old woman looked in the direction the army was pointing.
Long Chuqing smiled slightly: "Hello!"
The old woman squinted slightly, scrutinizing the young woman. She saw a beautiful young woman standing there quietly: "She's such a young girl!"
Her tone carried a hint of skepticism, as if she didn't quite believe the young girl in front of her knew medicine.
This was also the first time Dajun had met Long Chuqing. As for whether she knew medicine, he had no idea and could only wait and see for the time being.
When they first said they were coming to Dongzi's house to treat his father, he was quite skeptical when he learned that the one with medical skills was this young lady.
Putting everything else aside, her beautiful appearance and elegant demeanor, coupled with her youth, are truly remarkable.
She looks exactly like one of those pampered rich girls! She doesn't seem like the kind of person who could endure the hardships of studying medicine.
However, despite knowing that Dongzi came from a poor family, the distinguished guests did not show any disdain.
They were even willing to personally go to the village and offer free medical consultations to a complete stranger, and even if they ultimately failed to cure Dongzi's father, they couldn't say anything against him.
With a mixture of belief and doubt, he looked at the old woman with a worried expression and said, "Auntie, since this young lady has already come to our house, why don't we let her take a look at Dongzi's father?"
"Cough cough..." As soon as she finished speaking, the old woman coughed violently again. She covered her mouth while coughing and glanced at her son who was lying motionless on the kang.
"Sigh... Look at it! It's already like this, how much worse can it get?"
Long Chuqing sensed something was wrong as soon as she entered the inner room, and when she saw Dongzi's father lying on the kang (a heated brick bed), it confirmed her previous suspicions.
“He’s not sick,” Fei Feng said. “And it doesn’t look like an ordinary nightmare.”
“It was done by a demon,” Feng Yu said. “Look at his brow.”
A wisp of pale golden light, transformed from phoenix feathers, gently swept across Dongzi's father's dull and ashen face.
A faint silver light, invisible to ordinary people, appeared between his eyebrows and then slowly extended outward through the window.
The light was like a transparent silver thread, rising and falling with each of Dongzi's father's breaths, as if it were alive.
“Those who have recently fallen into a coma are probably all under the control of this line,” Long Chuqing said. “We still can’t determine whether it’s a monster that devours human essence or a monster that devours dreams.”
The room was somewhat dim, and the silver threads were barely visible. It would be difficult to discern them under the sunlight outside.
"Right now, we can only cut the silver thread that's deep between Dongzi's eyebrows and wake him up. We can deal with the rest later."
As instructed, Feng Yu transformed into an invisible pair of scissors and cut the silver thread.
The severed silver thread seemed startled and quickly retracted, disappearing in the blink of an eye from where it had extended in through the window.
Now that the silk thread problem is solved, all that's left is to wake up Dongzi's father.
Long Chuqing placed her fingertips on Dongzi's father's wrist pulse, first diagnosing him, and then took out the silver needles she always carried with her.
She inserted the silver needle into his Baihui acupoint... After a short while, Dongzi's father suddenly took a deep breath, his eyelids trembled a few times, and then he slowly opened his eyes.
Dongzi, who came in from outside, rushed to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) with joy when she saw her father wake up, and hugged him tightly.
He said, feeling wronged, "Father...you're finally awake." Tears welled up in his eyes uncontrollably.
Dongzi's father raised his calloused, slightly rough hands and pressed them against his face to wipe away the tears streaming down his face.
Upon learning that her son had woken up, the old woman disregarded her own discomfort and moved from the other end of the kang (a heated brick bed) to his side.
"Mother... I'm sorry to have worried you."
"It's good that you're awake, it's good that you're awake." The old woman wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes with her sleeve.
Once she confirmed that Dongzi's father was conscious, Long Chuqing removed the silver needles.
She asked Dongzi's father in detail about the things he dreamed about while he was in a coma.
When Dongzi's father woke up, he was still relatively clear-headed. He said he had a very long dream in which he dreamed of Dongzi's deceased mother.
