Chapter 267: Who Is The Best Teacher?
Chapter 267: Who Is The Best Teacher?
Jarva still believed that running away would’ve been the smarter choice, but unfortunately for him, Luan had already dragged him along with the group before he could escape.
Meanwhile, Roxanna looked between Calen, Azul, and Cyrus one by one.
"So?" she asked. "What should we do now?"
"Mating?" Calen suggested without even sounding embarrassed.
Roxanna immediately shot him a sharp glare. "No!" she snapped. "We should also do something productive while they’re busy spying on the Sky Tribe."
Calen looked like he still wanted to argue back, but thankfully, Cyrus spoke before he could. "How about we test the poison?" Cyrus suggested calmly. "I want to try it out."
Compared to yesterday, he already looked much healthier now. The pale color on his face had mostly disappeared too, making everyone feel relieved that he was recovering properly, especially since Azul had already made another batch of medicine for him earlier.
[Ding! Ding!]
[Side Mission Activated: Train Your Aiming Skills!]
[Goal: Kill five birds using a bow and arrows.]
[Reward: Bull-Eye Skill — Effect: Even without using a magical bow, you will still be able to aim properly and hit your target.]
[Note: Host is forbidden from using a magical bow in this mission.]
Roxanna immediately froze. She wasn’t allowed to use her magical bow?!
[What kind of nonsense is this?!] Roxanna shouted loudly in her mind. [How am I supposed to kill five birds if I can’t use my magical bow?! My aiming skills are terrible!]
"You need to kill birds?" Cyrus suddenly asked from beside her.
Roxanna instantly stiffened, and only then did she remember that all of them were able to hear her thoughts.
[Damn it! I should’ve thought more quietly than that.] She scolded herself internally, though this time she tried very hard not to sound like she was yelling inside her head.
[What if Cyrus gets offended? He’s literally a bird beastkin!]
The moment that thought crossed her mind, Roxanna immediately covered her mouth with both hands in panic even though she hadn’t actually said anything out loud.
"I’m sorry!" she blurted out quickly. "I didn’t mean to say something rude!"
For a moment, the entire area fell silent, then Calen suddenly burst out laughing first. Even Azul looked like he was struggling to hold back his laughter while Cyrus silently stared at Roxanna with a completely unreadable expression.
Roxanna immediately became even more embarrassed. "I-I mean..." she stammered awkwardly. "Not all birds! I just meant the mission birds!"
That only made Calen laugh even harder. Meanwhile, Cyrus slowly blinked before finally letting out a small sigh.
"Wife," he said calmly, "I don’t get offended that easily."
Roxanna immediately looked relieved. "Oh, thank goodness."
Then after a brief pause, Cyrus added in a completely serious tone, "Besides, I also eat birds sometimes."
Roxanna froze again. "What?"
Cyrus tilted his head slightly. "What? They taste good."
[Is this some kind of cannibalism or what?] Roxanna wondered internally. [But well... he’s not technically a full bird. He’s a beastman, so of course he can eat anything like a normal human while also being able to transform into an animal.]
"I-I see..." she said softly.
After finally managing to suppress her embarrassment, she continued, "The voice in my head told me to train my aiming skills by shooting five birds. But the problem is... I’m not sure I can actually aim properly."
Cyrus calmly said, "Don’t worry. I can teach you how."
"I can do it too!" Calen proudly interrupted.
Cyrus let out a quiet sigh. "Between the two of us, my aiming skills are better."
Calen immediately looked offended. "What do you mean your aiming skills are better than mine?" he argued. "I hunt all the time too!"
Cyrus crossed his arms calmly. "Yes, but most of your hunting style involves chasing things until they get tired."
"That still counts as skill!"
"That counts as bullying the prey."
Azul, who had been quietly standing nearby, suddenly nodded in agreement. "Honestly, he’s right."
"Why are you siding with him?!" Calen protested immediately.
"Fine!" Calen declared dramatically. "Let’s compete right now!"
Cyrus stared at him silently for a moment. "Why are you so competitive over this?"
"Because our wife needs the best teacher!"
Roxanna immediately raised her hand. "I never asked for this competition."
Unfortunately, nobody listened to her.
A few moments later, both Calen and Cyrus were already standing side by side with bows in their hands while several birds rested peacefully on tree branches nearby, completely unaware of the danger approaching them.
"Watch carefully, Wife," Calen said confidently while pulling back his arrow. "I’ll show you perfect accuracy."
Whoosh!
The arrow shot forward, and completely missed the bird.
Instead, it struck a tree branch, causing all the birds nearby to fly away in panic.
Everything fell silent for a moment before Cyrus finally spoke. "Perfect accuracy?"
Calen immediately coughed awkwardly. "The wind suddenly changed."
"There was no wind," Azul suddenly pointed out.
Calen looked at Azul in annoyance. "Why do you keep defending him?"
Azul frowned immediately. "I’m not defending anyone, damn it! I’m just stating the facts!"
Cyrus calmly nodded in agreement. "Exactly."
"Wife, they’re bullying me!" Calen complained dramatically.
Meanwhile, Roxanna simply sat on top of the animal pelt spread over the grass, looking completely relaxed.
She casually ate slices of fruit and pieces of jerky while watching her husbands argue with each other, almost like she was enjoying a very entertaining soap opera.
Honestly, she looked far too comfortable watching the chaos unfold around her.
Roxanna slowly chewed the fruit in her mouth before lazily pointing toward Cyrus. "Just let him shoot the bird first," she said casually.
Calen immediately clicked his tongue in annoyance, though he still stepped aside dramatically like a defeated warrior making room for his rival.
"Fine," he grumbled. "Let the bird man show off."
Cyrus calmly ignored the nickname and picked up the bow instead.
Unlike Calen’s loud confidence, Cyrus moved casually. Even the way he held the bow looked more natural, almost like hunting was simply part of his schedule.
Roxanna unconsciously sat up straighter while watching him. Honestly... he looked really cool and handsome.
When Cyrus pulled the arrow back, he looked unbelievably calm, like a statue that didn’t even need air to breathe.
His amber eyes focused on the bird perched high on the branch while the surrounding noise slowly faded into the background, even the wind seemed calmer around him.
Whoosh!
The arrow shot through the air with incredible precision before striking the bird almost instantly.
The poor bird didn’t even have time to react before it dropped from the branch.
Roxanna’s eyes widened slightly. To be honest, Cyrus looked completely different while holding a weapon.
Usually, he gave off a silent and gentle feeling, but right now, there was something sharp and dangerous about him, like a predator patiently waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
"Amazing," Roxanna murmured without thinking.
The moment those words left her mouth, Calen immediately looked heartbroken.
"Wife," he said dramatically, "you didn’t praise me earlier too!"
Roxanna blinked a few times before pointing toward the tree branch he had destroyed earlier. "Because you missed."
Calen immediately clutched his chest as if her words had physically wounded him. "That was emotional damage."
Meanwhile, Cyrus calmly placed the bow down before speaking in a flat voice, "The tree probably suffered more damage."
Even Azul couldn’t stop himself from snorting after hearing that. "He’s right."
Before Calen could become even more dramatic, Roxanna finally stood up and said, "Alright, alright, stop fighting. We can’t spend the entire day screaming at each other."
Then she looked at Calen gently. "You might not be the best archer, but I know my Calen is really skilled in close-range combat."
The moment those words left her mouth, Calen immediately brightened up again. His tail wagged to the right and left quickly.
"See?" he proudly said while glaring at the others. "Wife understands me best."
Cyrus calmly crossed his arms. "She just said you’re bad at archery in a nicer way."
Calen instantly pointed at him again. "Can you stop ruining my happy moments?!"
Meanwhile, Roxanna couldn’t help laughing softly at their reactions.
Honestly, calming Calen down was surprisingly easy sometimes. Just a little praise and his mood immediately improved again.
But of course, it usually didn’t last very long.
"We’re supposed to compete over who can shoot more birds!" Calen protested loudly. "One missed shot doesn’t decide the winner! We’ll keep shooting for two whole hours!"
Cyrus simply shrugged and nodded calmly. "Fine by me."
Azul let out a tired sigh from nearby. "These people are so noisy," he muttered.
Then he turned toward Roxanna. "They’ll probably stay busy arguing for a while," he said. "Why don’t you practice your archery skills with me instead?"
Roxanna blinked in surprise. "Azul can use a bow well too?"
Azul smiled faintly. "Maybe I’m not as good as Cyrus," he admitted honestly, "but I still understand the basics." He tilted his head slightly before asking, "Do you want my help?"
"Of course!" Roxanna replied cheerfully, and then she glanced toward the still-arguing Calen and Cyrus before whispering, "Should we move somewhere less noisy first?"
