Chapter 213 Visiting the Elderly Mother
Chapter 213 Visiting the Elderly Mother
"Li Yuan, I think we should go see my mom today," Liu Xuan shouted towards the kitchen while tying his shoelaces.
Li Yuan came out of the kitchen carrying a plate of freshly mixed cold dishes, and rolled her eyes at him: "You really do things on a whim, leaving whenever you want, while I haven't even finished preparing this dish yet."
"Oh dear, we can get the vegetables ready anytime, but Mom's situation is the real priority." Liu Xuan stood up, patted off non-existent dust from his pants, and looked anxious.
"Alright, alright, you're so filial. Go get the car, I'll put the vegetables in the fridge, and then I'll change my clothes." Li Yuan shook her head helplessly and turned to go into the kitchen.
Liu Xuan hummed a little tune and jogged out the door. A moment later, he pulled up in front of his house. He honked the horn and shouted, "Li Yuan, hurry up! What time is it?"
Li Yuan hurriedly came out of the house carrying her bag, muttering, "Hurry, hurry, hurry, you're driving me crazy." As soon as she got into the car, Liu Xuan stepped on the gas and drove off.
"Slow down, we're not rushing to put out a fire." Li Yuan gripped the handrail tightly, her face filled with fear.
"Okay, you can rest assured." Liu Xuan said, but he didn't slow down the car at all.
The two bickered and argued all the way, and soon arrived at Liu Xuan's mother's house. Liu Xuan parked the car and pulled Li Yuan into the house.
"Mom, we've come to see you." Liu Xuan's voice could be heard even before he entered the house.
Liu Xuan's mother came out of the house to greet them, her face beaming with joy: "Why are you two here? You didn't even tell me beforehand."
"Mom, we just wanted to give you a surprise." Li Yuan smiled and stepped forward, taking Liu Xuan's mother's hand.
The three entered the house, and Liu Xuan plopped down on the sofa, crossing his legs: "Mom, how have you been feeling lately?"
"I'm doing fine, I can eat and sleep well, so don't worry about me." Liu Xuan's mother sat to the side, smiling as she looked at them.
"That's good. I was worried about you being home alone, what if something happened to you?" Liu Xuan patted his chest, looking relieved.
"You silly child, you're always worrying unnecessarily. I'm in good health, I can live for decades to come," Liu Xuan's mother said with a smile.
"Mom, please don't say that. I hope you live to be a hundred and see us all healthy and well," Li Yuan quickly said.
"Yes, yes, may you live a long and healthy life," Liu Xuan echoed.
At this moment, Liu Xuan's mother suddenly remembered something and stood up: "You haven't eaten yet, have you? I'll go and cook for you."
"Mom, no need, we'll eat out." Liu Xuan quickly stopped his mother.
“Eat some more after you’ve eaten. I made all your favorite dishes,” Liu Xuan’s mother insisted.
"Mom, really, you don't need to. Look, we even brought you some groceries." Li Yuan pointed to the bag placed to the side.
Liu Xuan's mother opened the bag, looked inside, and frowned: "What did you buy? It's not as good as what I make."
"Mom, you don't understand. This is Li Yuan's cooking; you can't get this anywhere else," Liu Xuan quickly said.
"Hmph, I know her skills, she's far inferior to mine." Liu Xuan's mother said with a look of disdain.
Li Yuan wasn't angry when she heard this. She smiled and said, "Mom, you're right. I still have a lot to learn from you."
"That's more like it. I'll teach you properly when I have time," Liu Xuan's mother said with a smug smile.
After chatting for a while, Liu Xuan suddenly remembered something and took out his phone from his pocket: "Mom, let me take a picture of you so we can keep it as a memento."
“What are you taking pictures of? What’s so special about an old woman like me?” Liu Xuan’s mother quickly waved her hand.
"Mom, what are you saying? You're so beautiful, it would be a shame not to take pictures." Liu Xuan said as he posed for a photo.
"You child, you're just good at making me happy." Liu Xuan's mother said this, but she still tidied her hair and sat up straight.
With a click, the photo was taken. Liu Xuan looked at it and nodded in satisfaction: "Mom, look, this photo is so beautiful!"
Liu Xuan's mother took the phone, looked at the photo, and said with a smile, "It's alright, but you've gotten a few more wrinkles on your face."
“Mom, these are the marks of time on you, they’re so charming,” Li Yuan said with a smile.
"You two have such sweet talk." Liu Xuan's mother smiled so much that her eyes narrowed into slits.
Time flew by, and before they knew it, evening had arrived. Liu Xuan and Li Yuan got up to say goodbye.
"Mom, we're leaving now. Please take care of yourself," Liu Xuan instructed.
"Okay, drive carefully on the road," Liu Xuan's mother said reluctantly as she saw them to the door.
"Mom, you can go back now, don't see me off," Li Yuan said, turning around.
"Okay, okay, come visit often when you have time." Liu Xuan's mother stood at the door, watching their car drive away.
On the way home, Liu Xuan and Li Yuan remained silent, each lost in their own thoughts. Suddenly, Liu Xuan broke the silence: "Li Yuan, do you think Mom will be lonely at home alone?"
"Of course we will. We should spend more time with her in the future," Li Yuan said.
"Yes, that's what I was thinking too." Liu Xuan nodded. "Let's bring Mom over to stay for a while after some time."
“Great, that’s exactly what I was thinking too,” Li Yuan said with a smile.
The two smiled at each other, and the atmosphere in the car became exceptionally warm.
Suddenly, Liu Xuan's stomach growled loudly. Li Yuan couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Didn't you say you ate out? Why are you still hungry?"
"I only ate a couple of bites so that Mom wouldn't have to cook," Liu Xuan said, scratching his head awkwardly.
"What would you like to eat? I'll make it for you," Li Yuan asked.
"I want to eat your braised pork and sweet and sour pork ribs," Liu Xuan said expectantly.
"Okay, I'll make it for you when we get home," Li Yuan readily agreed.
Liu Xuan was as happy as a child, and stepped on the gas pedal even harder.
"Drive slower, don't fall over my head chef, otherwise who will cook for you?" Li Yuan said with a smile and a hint of reproach.
"Okay, okay, I'll slow down." Liu Xuan quickly slowed down, but his face was filled with a happy smile.
And so, the two chatted and laughed all the way home. This ordinary day became exceptionally warm and beautiful because of a visit to relatives.
