Chapter 429 Living Under the Bridge

Chapter 429 Living Under the Bridge

As the vendors called out their wares and word spread among customers, a queue soon formed in front of the stall.

The full-course meal still sells the best. It's generously filled and cheaper than the other two options, and you can still taste the filling inside the egg with a meaty flavor.

All the food they brought had been used up, and Fang Er thought it was still early and he wanted to prepare some more, but Wei Yi stopped him.

“Have you forgotten what Grandpa taught us about scarcity marketing yesterday? If they’ve had their fill today, will they come back tomorrow? They might not come at all,” he whispered in Fang Er’s ear.

Upon hearing this, Fang Er suddenly remembered what Wen Luozhi had taught them yesterday and slapped his head.

"Oh dear! Look at me, I got so caught up in how good business was that I forgot all about it."

He said a few words and went back to making jianbing guozi (Chinese crepes), selling everything except what he and a few others ate.

The ingredients brought were all gone before noon. Wen Luozhi offered a second item at half price at the last minute, otherwise they wouldn't have sold out so quickly.

The group packed up their stall and sat on small stools to eat their own portions.

Grandma Mi came to pick up Songyin and was embarrassed to see that the little girl had already eaten something.

"Business must be good, right? On the way here, I heard everyone saying that a new stall on East Street was selling delicious food."

"Please try some," Wen Luozhi was about to hand over her jianbing guozi when Song Yin brought her other half to Grandma Mi's mouth. "Grandma, eat up, Uncle's is so delicious."

The little girl turned to Wen Luozhi with a shy smile and said sensibly, "Uncle, you've gone to so much trouble to eat it all yourself. Grandma and I will share one."

Wen Luozhi patted her head, and the little girl sat with Helian Zhiyan, intently eating her own pancake.

Grandma Mi accepted her granddaughter's offer, took a bite, and exclaimed, "Mmm! Delicious!"

After they finished eating, they headed back, and the journey back was much easier than the way there.

"Sir, are we really only selling for one morning?"

Fang Da felt a little regretful. Although he hadn't counted the money yet, he knew he must have made a lot this morning, and if he sold the same amount in the afternoon, it certainly wouldn't have been bad.

Moreover, he is now full of energy, and as long as he can earn money, he can work for three days and three nights without complaining of being tired.

Wen Luozhi shook her head. "Most people go out in the morning, so fewer will be out in the afternoon. If the quantities aren't accurate, the food won't be fresh by the next day."

"Doing business is all about honesty and integrity. As we've said today, everything is fresh today; we can't cheat our customers."

She glanced at Wei Yi, who was drinking water in the back, and said, "Everyone is tired after a long morning, so take a good rest this afternoon. After dinner, go to bed early so you can get up early tomorrow to prepare."

When they arrived at the house, Fang Da and Fang Er tidied up the pots and pans and talked about when they would come over tomorrow. Only then did Wen Luozhi realize that she didn't know where they lived.

"Are you two far from here?" she asked.

Fang Da and Fang Er exchanged a glance, then looked at Wen Luozhi and stammered, "I... our master lives not far away, under a bridge not far from East Street."

Fang Da awkwardly dug his toes into the ground. They were struggling to even get food, let alone manage their diet.

The bridge archway was alright; it wouldn't collapse in the wind or get wet in the rain. I could just put something under it and sleep there.

I just didn't expect that they would sleep like this for almost a year.

"Bridge hole?" Wen Luozhi couldn't help but click her tongue in amazement.

Could it be that underpass she saw when she went to East Street this morning? How could two people live in such a small place?

How do we handle eating, drinking, and urinating/defecating?

She looked at the two brothers; the place was fairly clean, but their living quarters were far too...

"Why don't you two come stay at my place? The place my dad left me isn't too bad."

Wei Yi put one arm around each of them and laughed, "I'll sleep in that room, and you two can sleep comfortably on the floor. It's warm inside."

"This..." Fang Da was a little embarrassed, but Fang Er made a decision immediately upon hearing it.

"Okay! Then we'll head over there."

Wei Yi nudged Fang Da's arm and patted his chest, "We're all brothers now, why be so polite?"

"Brother, would you do me the honor of staying at my place?"

The bond of brotherhood between men always comes so suddenly. Wen Luozhi laughed and said, "Then let's go to Wei Yi's place and make money together."

"But let's make this clear first, consider the capital I used to sell jianbing guozi the first few times as a loan from you. Pay me back when you make a profit, and you can divide the rest however you like, as long as you fight it out."

These three are all simple-minded and easygoing. She doesn't lack money; she just wants to use her skills to help others get rich.

"Sir, you're a good person! Waaah!" Fang Er suddenly became emotional and said, almost crying.

Fang Da and Wei Yi felt that what she said was inappropriate, and in the end Fang Da said, "You can calculate it however you want, we absolutely cannot let you suffer a loss."

Wei Yi nodded in agreement; in just half a day, his fondness for Wen Luozhi had reached a new level.

Wen Luozhi was already a bit tired and didn't want to argue with them anymore. "I said this is how it is. I'll teach you how to make other things in a couple of days. You can sell them however you want."

She yawned and waved her hand impatiently. "Someone go and close the door. Let's count how much silver we made this morning."

Wei Yi limped toward closing the door, but Song Yin grabbed him and ran over there, patting him gently on the back.

"Good child," Wei Yi said with a smile, thinking to himself that this child was really sensible.

The coins from the several money bags were poured out and divided into four piles, with each person counting their own.

In the end, the total came to three taels of silver, and after deducting costs, we made more than half of that profit.

"Hehe, great, fantastic! I can earn silver too!"

Fang Er held a handful of copper coins and smiled foolishly. Wen Luozhi originally wanted to give them the copper coins after deducting the cost, but the three of them insisted that she keep them for now, so she had no choice but to take them.

"That's enough, everyone. There are some big meat buns left in the kitchen for you tomorrow morning or this morning. Take them home and heat them up yourself."

They didn't need to fetch it themselves; Wen Luozhi and Song Yin had already brought it out for them.

The two little kids were each carrying a large bag, it seemed like they were worried there would be leftovers even for three people's two meals.

Fang Da and Fang Er were so moved they almost cried. In their minds, it must have been prepared by Wen Luozhi before she went to East Street that morning.

How can there be such good people in this world? They even thought of stealing someone's horse to eat before, they deserve to die!

Wei Yi suddenly felt that the three blows he had taken were well worth it. After taking them, he would earn money and eat meat. Even if he took three more blows, it wouldn't be a loss.

The nights were the same as always: Lang Batian guarded the first half of the night, while Wen Luozhi guarded the second half.

That night was much quieter than the previous night; there was only one noise at the door and nothing happened again until dawn.

Songyin arrived even earlier than Fangda and the others, and stubbornly pulled at Granny Mi.

"Luo Zhi, my grandson insisted on coming over today, I'm so sorry to trouble you."

She shoved the basket from her arm into Wen Luozhi's arms, saying, "I know you don't lack good things. These are free-range eggs from our two hens, they're very fragrant. You can cook them and eat them."

Wen Luozhi looked down at the basket in her arms. The eggs inside were all as big as half of her fist. She wondered how the chickens were raised.

There are about twenty of them; if you take them out to sell, they'll be worth two strings of silver.

Just as she was about to return the basket, Grandma Mi waved and left. "Grandma will pick you up at noon. Listen to your uncle!"

She had just stepped out the door when Fang Da and the others arrived. Fang Da and Fang Er looked newer than yesterday and seemed to be in high spirits, indicating that they had a good stay with Wei Yi.
