Chapter 982: Love Is Sugar, Sweet to Sorrow (2)
Su Weiyi didn’t know how she fell asleep. Maybe it was because she’d gone to bed too late; when she woke up the next day, it was already close to ten in the morning.
She washed up and went downstairs. Just as she reached the turn on the staircase, she heard voices coming from the living room below.
"I think the relationship between Yanxiao and Xiao Yi is getting better and better. It’s nothing like before."
The one speaking was Sheng Jiayu. When Su Weiyi heard Sheng Yanxiao’s and her own name mentioned, her steps suddenly halted, and she slowly crouched down.
"Yeah, they’ve grown up and become sensible. Xiao Yi has always been very obedient. It’s that brat who doesn’t act like a brother at all."
Sheng Jiayu laughed. "I remember when they were little, people even used to joke that Xiao Yi was the Sheng Family’s little child bride. You even rarely put on the airs of Mrs. Sheng because of that and scared everyone so much that they never dared bring it up again."
"Xiao Yi is our daughter. What child bride? Xiao Yi’s always been sensitive at heart. If she were to hear something like that, it wouldn’t be good for her. Besides, from the day I adopted Xiao Yi, I knew she would be my daughter for the rest of her life."
Sitting on the stairs in a squat, Su Weiyi’s face gradually turned pale.
She slowly stood up, turned around and went back to her room, filled a basin full of cold water, and plunged her face deep into it.
Winter had already set in, and the cold water running from the tap was bone-chilling. Yet Su Weiyi seemed completely unaware, burying herself in it.
Her heart sank bit by bit, then, like the water spraying out, it gradually turned cold.
After lunch, Su Weiyi used the excuse of having something to do at school and went back to the dorm first.
Su Man had gone out shopping, leaving only Xie Xiaoran alone in the dorm.
Xie Xiaoran had just received the payment for her drawings and was about to pay back the money she had borrowed from Su Weiyi last time.
Su Weiyi didn’t say much, just quietly slipped the money into her wallet. Her expression was calm, no different from usual, but Xie Xiaoran still keenly picked up on her strangeness.
In fact, ever since Su Weiyi’s identity had been made public, she had been not quite herself.
It was just that Xie Xiaoran never liked to take the initiative to ask anything. If Su Weiyi wanted to talk to her, she would naturally talk. Since she didn’t, Xie Xiaoran wouldn’t press.
But now, after holding back for a moment, Xie Xiaoran finally spoke up: "Xiao Yi, something on your mind?"
Su Weiyi lifted her eyes and glanced at Xie Xiaoran. This was the first friend she had ever taken the initiative to make.
Not that other friends weren’t important, but Xie Xiaoran was, after all, a bit special.
Su Weiyi didn’t like to bare her heart to others, yet now she was acting a little out of character. Her instinct told her that Xie Xiaoran would understand what she was feeling, that she wouldn’t think she was making trouble for herself, splitting hairs, or being pretentious.
Weiwei pressed her lips together, then began to speak. Her narration was very calm, yet it was like holding a scalpel, slicing her heart open little by little.
She laid out her seriousness about this relationship, the sweetness, the pain and the torment, and the helpless entanglement she was trapped in now, every bit and every drop spelled out with painful clarity.
Xie Xiaoran listened quietly. By the time Su Weiyi finished, understanding had already settled over her face.
There were some things Su Weiyi didn’t know, but she had heard. Ever since the girls all over campus who had their eyes on Sheng Yanxiao learned that Su Weiyi and him were only brother and sister, the hearts that had originally calmed down started to stir restlessly again.
There were even quite a few in their own class who wanted to get close to Sheng Yanxiao through Su Weiyi.
