Chapter 245 The Fastest Flight
Chapter 245 The Fastest Flight
Meanwhile, because he had been running errands late the night before, Jiang Yichen woke up from his sleep and habitually reached for his phone on the bedside table.
He squinted and dialed that familiar number, thinking to himself that when he heard her voice, he must say "Good morning" to her.
But all that came through the phone was a cold, mechanical voice: "The number you dialed is currently switched off..."
He paused, tapped the screen, and dialed again. Still, the phone was off. His brow furrowed, a vague unease creeping into his heart. Gu Mo never turned off her phone, especially not in the morning.
He sat up, his mind a jumbled mess. They had clearly spoken on the phone last night, and she had said she would wait for his message this morning. But now, he couldn't get through on the phone, and he couldn't contact her.
He opened his contacts, found Lin Nan's number, and dialed it. After a few rings, Lin Nan's voice came through, sounding a little sleepy and indistinct: "So early, what's up?"
"Gu Mo is missing." Jiang Yichen's voice was somewhat hurried, with obvious anxiety in his tone.
"Gone?" Lin Nan's voice was a little more clear-headed. "Shouldn't she be at home?"
"The phone is switched off, I can't get through."
Lin Nan was silent for a few seconds, then said, "Don't worry, I'll check her whereabouts right away. Wait for my news."
"I can't wait." Jiang Yichen's voice rose a few decibels, carrying a suppressed anxiety. "I must find her immediately. Help me find out where she was last seen, and I'll arrange a plane back right away."
"An airplane?" Lin Nan's voice held a hint of surprise. "Weren't you abroad? Are you coming back now?"
"Yes, the fastest flight."
Lin Nan sensed the determination in his tone and sighed, "Okay, I'll check for you right away. Calm down first, Gu Mo will be fine."
"Calm down?" Jiang Yichen sneered, his voice tinged with self-mockery and helplessness. "If anything happens to her, I will never forgive myself for the rest of my life."
After hanging up the phone, Jiang Yichen immediately dialed his assistant's number: "Book me the fastest flight back to China, no matter how expensive, arrange it immediately."
The assistant was clearly startled by his tone and quickly replied, "Yes, Mr. Jiang, I'll check right away."
"Gu Mo, where are you..." he murmured softly, his voice filled with a sense of despair and helplessness.
A few minutes later, the assistant called: "Mr. Jiang, the earliest flight is departing in 30 minutes, and I have already booked it for you."
"Okay." Jiang Yichen replied briefly, hung up the phone, grabbed his coat, and rushed out of the room.
I was crouching in the corner of the storage room when a burly man led me out, but I didn't know where we were going.
My heart was pounding, and my palms were sweating. When we arrived, I heard the burly man say, "Come in. I'm sorry to trouble you, Miss Gu." The door opened, and I froze—it was packed with travelers, and everyone's face was filled with fear and anger. An older woman and man were also inside. When they saw me come in, the older woman quickly came over and took my hand.
"Miss Lin, are you alright?" she asked in a low voice.
I shook my head, looked around, and noticed several people with injuries on their faces; one young man even had blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. I quickly asked, "What happened? Why are you all locked up here?"
The woman sighed and lowered her voice, saying, "Just now, someone went to argue with the tour guide, saying they were illegally detaining people. As a result, the tour guide ordered his men to attack without saying a word. That young man was beaten the worst, and the others who wanted to help were also threatened."
I looked at the young man; he was crouching in a corner, clutching his head, his face pale. A surge of anger welled up inside me, and I clenched my fists: "They're utterly lawless!"
The woman patted my hand and whispered, "Everyone is locked up here now, and their phones have been confiscated. There's no way for them to contact the outside world."
I quietly moved to the warehouse door and peeked out through the crack. The door was tightly locked with a heavy iron chain, and outside there was only a tall, thin man leaning lazily against the wall, smoking and occasionally looking down at his phone, not seeming very vigilant.
I retreated into the crowd and whispered to a few tall men, "The gate is locked with iron chains, and there's only one guard outside. If I say I'm willing to record a clarification video, we'll seize the opportunity, and as soon as the gate opens, we'll all rush out."
A middle-aged man in sportswear frowned: "But we're unarmed, how are we supposed to deal with him? And what if we alert the others?"
My mind raced: "We can make some noise to lure him in. When he opens the door, we can all rush in together; he definitely can't handle it alone."
Another younger man nodded: "I think it's feasible. But we have to be quick and decisive, before he has a chance to call for backup."
We quickly assigned tasks.
I walked to the door and suddenly shouted, "I'm willing to record, but let them go first."
The guards outside didn't believe me and thought it was a trap. They wondered how I could have made up my mind so quickly, so they just stood at the door and watched for a while.
"Really, I agree to record a video, since everyone's here now anyway."
I gave the two older men next to me a look, signaling them to find an opportunity to lead the rest of the men out.
The person outside still didn't react, so I took another deep breath and shouted, "I can record!"
The burly man raised an eyebrow at me: "You've figured it out?"
I took a half step back and leaned against the door frame, my fingers clenching tightly into my palms, my voice trembling slightly: "I'll record a video... but you have to make sure everyone leaves safely."
He squinted at me and looked me up and down: "It would have been so much better if you had been this obedient earlier."
“But for now—” He winked at the burly man, “Take her to the room on the second floor, the others remain locked up.”
"No!" "I want to see them leave right now!" Just as the voice suddenly rose, a middle-aged woman's cries came from inside the warehouse: "Miss Lin, don't worry about us! You can't bow down to evil forces!"
His expression changed drastically. "You don't want anyone to die, do you? I'll cooperate by recording the video. If you let them go, it'll be better for everyone." Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the veins bulging on the back of the uncle's hand, which was gripping the chain, through the crack in the door.
The burly man suddenly pointed at me and said, "What the hell are you trying to pull?"
"You've already confiscated my phone, what tricks can I possibly pull? Why don't you just kill me right now and see who cleans up your mess!"
"That's enough." The burly guard called over another man. "Take everyone to the front yard and let her record in front of everyone." He pulled out his phone and held it to my face. "You'd better not try anything funny."
As the chains clattered to the ground, we counted down in our minds to 3, 2, 1. As soon as the door opened, we all rushed out.
