Chapter 279: Everything is clear
Chapter 279: Everything is clear
Su Ming stood in a dark corner of the warehouse, his mind swirling with doubt and unease. His new contact's behavior gave him a bad feeling; his slightly trembling fingers seemed to be warning him of something. He couldn't help but recall the details of that meeting, trying to find any possible clues.
He recalled the mysterious man, a thin figure with a deep, gloomy voice. A subtle anxiety often flickered in his eyes, as if he were hiding something important. The more Su Ming thought about it, the more he felt that this might be the root cause of the mission change.
"Why would he contact me at this moment?" Su Ming wondered. Who was he, and what was his motive? These questions flooded in like a tide, suffocating him. He knew full well that trust was a luxury in this world, and any slight oversight could have fatal consequences.
"Maybe I should check this guy out," he muttered to himself, already forming a new plan in his mind.
Su Ming's thoughts raced like gears. He had to find new clues quickly to keep moving forward in this game. He quickly put away his communication device, raised his head, and looked around. The darkness and silence in the warehouse seemed to remind him that this was not a long-term solution.
He reconfirmed the exit's location and quietly pushed open the old side door, letting in a faint light. It was a pitch-black night outside, and the wind carried a chill, bringing a sense of clarity. Although he still harbored doubts, he understood that remaining where he was would only expose him more quickly.
After leaving the warehouse, he planned to seek out an old friend who could provide him with information. This friend, a well-regarded figure in the intelligence community, was named Han Jie. Han Jie was a seasoned intelligence analyst who had worked across various organizations, accumulating a wealth of resources and information. Although the two had had some minor frictions, in this moment of crisis, Su Ming trusted Han Jie to provide the clues he needed.
Su Ming silently prayed to himself that Han Jie would definitely believe him. Although they hadn't been in close contact recently, the tacit understanding between them still existed. Carefully avoiding the main streets, he walked through several alleys and finally arrived at Han Jie's apartment in the southern district.
The moment Su Ming rang the doorbell, his heartbeat quickened. Would Han Jie be curious about what he was about to reveal, or even suspicious? He didn't know, but he had to give it a try. The door opened, and Han Jie appeared at the door, looking a little tired.
"Su Ming? Why are you here?" Han Jie's voice was filled with surprise and confusion.
"I need to talk to you about something." Su Ming lowered his voice, quickly glanced around, and only walked into the house after confirming that there were no strangers.
Han Jie closed the door with a puzzled look on his face, turned around, and looked at Su Ming carefully. "What's wrong with you? You look uneasy."
"Things are a bit complicated." Su Ming quickly explained the situation. "I need you to help me check on someone who may be related to my mission."
"Who?" Han Jie frowned slightly, with a bit of alertness.
"I don't know who he is specifically, but he has been in contact with my superiors." Su Ming paused, a hint of uneasiness flashing in his eyes. "Also, his behavior during the handover made me feel that something was amiss."
"Are you kidding me? I have no idea where to start with such vague clues." Han Jie said impatiently.
"I know, but I'm here to ask for help." Su Ming said anxiously, "I need you to help me find him. Any information about him will do. Believe me, he is very important to me."
Han Jie's expression softened a bit, clearly moved by Su Ming's sincerity, but he still shook his head. "You have to understand, this kind of thing isn't a simple investigation. I don't want to get involved."
"I don't want you to be in danger, but I need you." Su Ming's voice became more determined. "This is for my safety, and for your safety. As long as I find him, I will understand the truth of all this."
Han Jie fell silent, a flicker of hesitation in his eyes. Su Ming seized the opportunity and continued, "If you help me, I will definitely repay you for this favor once things become clear."
"Okay." Han Jie finally gave in and sighed, "But I need you to provide more information. Give me some details about this contact."
"All I know is that he was thin, wore a dark windbreaker, and spoke in a low voice." Su Ming pondered for a moment, trying to recall. "He looked nervous, as if he was hiding something. Maybe it was because I had become suspicious of him."
"Are you sure this isn't just your imagination?" Han Jie asked doubtfully, "In the intelligence community, everyone hides their true identity."
"I know I can't necessarily trust him completely, but my intuition tells me that he may pose a threat to us." Su Ming replied.
"Okay, I'll try my best to find it, but it'll take some time." Han Jie finally said, "It's not safe for you to stay here for too long now. It's best to leave as soon as possible."
Su Ming nodded, thanking Han Jie for his support. He knew he had to remain vigilant, trying to avoid being tracked while also gathering intelligence. He took a deep breath, said goodbye to Han Jie, and walked back into the night.
Walking onto the streets again, Su Ming's mind was still haunted by the image of that mysterious man. He had no idea what his motives were, nor what kind of vortex he would be drawn into. His heart seemed to be enveloped by an invisible pressure, and everything around him seemed unusually pale and powerless.
"I can't just sit there and wait for death." He secretly decided in his heart that he must act as soon as possible.
Su Ming pondered. Although his plan wasn't comprehensive enough, he needed to devise a plan that would allow him to find more clues. He decided to first go to the place where he had met his new contact and observe it carefully, perhaps he could find some clues there.
He returned to the warehouse, and the surroundings were as quiet as he remembered. But this time, he was no longer filled with doubts. Instead, he tried to sort everything out. He walked slowly around the warehouse, searching for any possible clues.
In a small alley, Su Ming's eyes fell on an abandoned cardboard box. Printed on it was a certain logo, likely the trademark of a tech company. He lowered his head, examining it closely, and suddenly an idea struck him.
"This is the logo of that company!" He was shocked, as if he had found a new clue.
He quickly pulled out his phone and searched for relevant information. A few minutes later, he confirmed the existence of this company, a crucial partner in his current mission. Su Ming's heartbeat quickened. Perhaps this was the key to unlocking the mystery.
"I have to check this company out," he decided secretly, his nervousness reignited. Su Ming knew he had to find this contact as soon as possible to eliminate the threat lurking around him.
