Spy Wars: Strong Agents Who Are Ruthless and Talk Little

Chapter 497: A Chance to Escape

Chapter 497: A Chance to Escape

Su Ming fought the pain and the creeping numbness, knowing he had to make a decision quickly. One mission, two destinies, a life-or-death struggle. Could he and Zheng Yaoxian ever have another chance at survival?

He grabbed Zheng Yaoxian's wrist and tried to pull him up from the ground, but he couldn't move the figure no matter what. His blood was flowing too fast, and Zheng Yaoxian's body was like a heavy stone, pressing down on him, making him unable to exert any strength.

"Damn it!" Su Ming couldn't help but curse under his breath. His forehead was already wet with sweat. The cold sweat mixed with blood made his vision even more blurred.

He had no time to think about any strategy, nor did he have time to worry about whether the enemy would come after him. All his thoughts were instantly reduced to one thought: to survive.

He shook Zheng Yaoxian's shoulders vigorously. "Wake up! Yaoxian!" His voice was almost crying. His eyes were fixed on Zheng Yaoxian's face. That familiar face looked unusually pale. He thought, if he could survive, he would never let this betrayal take away their hope.

Zheng Yaoxian's eyelashes trembled slightly, and he slowly opened his eyes, a trace of confusion and pain in his eyes. "Ming...Brother Ming..." His voice was hoarse, as if coming from a distant abyss.

"Don't talk!" Su Ming's voice was rapid and low. "Hold on, listen to me, we have to survive." He tightly grasped Zheng Yaoxian's hand and forced himself to calm down. At this moment, he no longer had time to doubt anything, nor time to think about anything else.

Zheng Yaoxian forced a smile, a faint one on his face. "You know... this is really the last time I'll help you," he murmured, his voice gradually fading.

"Don't be silly!" Su Ming scolded softly, his heart aching as if something were tugging at him. Every time he saw Zheng Yaoxian's eyes dim, he felt like he was being cut by a knife. He had imagined death in battle countless times, but he had never expected that his comrades, his brothers, would fall before him.

But now, he must face this painful reality instead of hiding from it.

He lifted Zheng Yaoxian's chin and stared into his gradually dying eyes, a frantic worry welling up in his heart. He wondered, what would he do if Zheng Yaoxian fell this time? He wasn't afraid of death, but he was afraid of being alone, afraid of no longer being able to fight alongside his former companions.

"I will save you, I promise!" Su Ming muttered to himself, his voice becoming low and resolute. Right now, he could only use his remaining strength to make one final effort.

He and Zheng Yaoxian struggled to their feet. Silence reigned around them, the only sound being the occasional faint whisper of wind, as if speaking to this shattered world. Su Ming knew the enemy had discovered their position. The air around them seemed shrouded in an invisible net, and every moment brought him new danger.

He didn't have time to think too much. He only knew that he had to find a hiding place and settle Zheng Yaoxian, otherwise they might not even have a chance of survival.

Just then, a low sound could be heard in the distance. It sounded like footsteps, or something sliding gently. Su Ming instantly tensed, his eyes sharp as a knife. He glanced down at Zheng Yaoxian, confirming he was still unconscious, and made a quick decision.

He pulled Zheng Yaoxian hard, pinning his body firmly behind him, trying to prevent the enemy from discovering their position. As the enemy gradually approached, he could feel the oppressive aura, like an invisible sword that could pierce his heart at any time.

He gritted his teeth, managing to adjust his pace, moving forward step by step with Zheng Yaoxian. Each step he took felt like he was using up his last bit of strength. Every breath he took felt like he was tugging at fate's neck, heavy and breathless.

He remembered discussing with Zheng Yaoxian the choices they would make when facing death. They had discussed how to find a balance between life and death, how to persevere even in the darkest moments. But now, everything before him was not as simple as they had imagined.

He stopped and turned back, looking at the once familiar street. A nameless sadness suddenly rose in his heart. It seemed that there was only a thin line between life and death, and they stood at the other end of it.

"Ming..." Zheng Yaoxian's voice came again, so weak that it was almost inaudible.

"Stop talking!" Su Ming practically roared, his eyes gleaming with an undeniable light. "I'll get you out alive!"

Su Ming's back was as stiff as a stone sculpture, his legs trembling uncontrollably, his hands still clinging tightly to Zheng Yaoxian's body, as if it were his only support. He no longer knew how long he had been walking in this city, the sound of his heartbeat roaring in his ears, as if it was tearing apart all his chaotic thoughts.

"Can't stop, can't stop," he repeated silently, yet his feet felt like they were being weighed down by a heavy object, each step heavier than the last. Zheng Yaoxian's body heat radiated from his back, growing hotter and hotter. The heat from his wounds, combined with the rapidly fading breath of life, made Su Ming's heart grow even colder.

"Hold on a little longer, hold on a little longer." He gritted his teeth and spoke softly, as if comforting himself, but also as if urging himself to make a decision quickly. Every time Zheng Yaoxian moaned, his heart would skip a beat, as if the sound was a countdown bell, reminding him that every second was precious.

But he knew that time would not allow them to delay any longer. The enemy would not allow him to linger in this neighborhood for long. The shadow of death was already quietly approaching. If they continued to delay, they would not even have a chance to escape.

He paused, leaning against a dilapidated wall. He took a deep breath, trying to clear his mind. Zheng Yaoxian's injuries were more severe than he had imagined, and the oppressive feeling nearly suffocated Su Ming. Seeing the pained expression on his face, Su Ming felt a sharp pain in his heart. Every time he saw Zheng Yaoxian's eyes, he would think of their childhood, the years they had fought side by side, and the difficult times they had faced together through countless dangers. Every moment felt like a sharp knife cutting into his chest.

"I can't let him die... I can't let him die!" This was the only thought in his mind. His breathing was rapid, his fingers were white from overexertion, and his fingertips were trembling slightly. Zheng Yaoxian, if he fell, what would he do? Without Zheng Yaoxian, would he have made it this far?
