Chapter 504: Opening a Gap
Chapter 504: Opening a Gap
Following the sound of metal clashing, he carefully pushed open the door and entered a dimly lit warehouse. It was filled with scattered tools and discarded items, and the air was thick with the smell of grease and dust. Su Ming took a deep breath and completely concealed himself behind the pile of junk. He knew that while this place wasn't large, it was enough to hide for a while.
"Nothing can go wrong," he said silently to himself.
He waited quietly for several minutes, his palms already covered in cold sweat. As time passed, the surroundings remained dead silent. Then—just as he was about to completely let his guard down, he suddenly heard several footsteps outside.
A flurry of hurried footsteps, mixed with the sound of low conversation, drew closer, almost to the door. Su Ming's heart tightened, and he immediately crouched down, silently lowering his body to hide in the shadows of the piled materials.
"Where did he go?" A man's voice was anxious, obviously still tracking him.
"He definitely hasn't gotten far," another voice replied calmly. "There's no way anyone else is around. We have to find him. We can't waste any more time."
Su Ming couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat. The enemy had already begun searching for him, and there was nothing in this warehouse that could serve as cover. If he didn't take action, he would likely be discovered.
However, he did not rush to act. After a few seconds, he breathed a sigh of relief because he saw a faint ray of light coming in from the window outside. This angle was just right for him to see the other party's movements.
"Good opportunity." He thought to himself, and suddenly a light bulb went off in his head. All his thoughts became clear almost instantly.
He quickly grabbed a nearby metal pipe and made a few adjustments, creating a simple device. Then, he quietly placed the device outside the window, using the reflection of the metal pipe to create a false impression. If everything went according to plan, the enemy would definitely be misled and follow the wrong direction.
"This is the chance you gave me." He said silently in his heart, with determination flashing in his eyes.
Soon after, the footsteps outside faded away. Su Ming held his breath and quietly left the warehouse. Tonight, he had to stand on the edge of the cliff once again and use every possible means to free himself and Zheng Yaoxian from this invisible net.
Su Ming passed through several narrow alleys, his steps light and swift. His heartbeat had returned to a steady state, but a vague sense of unease lingered. He understood that what he faced wasn't just the pursuers, but more importantly, the mastermind behind the scenes, the one who had been manipulating the situation. Every speculation, every deduction, felt like an invisible yoke, trapping him further and further in this unpredictable game. And now, he finally felt himself drawing closer to the answer.
He stopped, leaning against the corner of an old building, and took a deep breath. There was no sound, save for the occasional distant car hum and the barking of dogs carried on the wind. The surroundings remained completely silent. This silence made one feel uneasy, especially at the moment when the truth was about to be revealed, when everything seemed so subtle.
"This is the last chance." Su Ming silently warned himself in his heart. He knew that if he missed it again, there might not be a second chance.
He swiftly emerged from his hiding spot and moved swiftly towards his target location. It was a closed building, surrounded by high walls. From the outside, it appeared normal. However, Su Ming, drawing on past intelligence, knew the building's true purpose. It was no ordinary warehouse or commercial building, but a secret contact point, hiding a deeply mysterious figure behind the scenes—the "shadow" he had been pursuing.
After a short run, he finally reached the side of the building. There was a conspicuous gap in the wall, seemingly intentionally left for easy entry and exit. Su Ming narrowed his eyes, a strong sense of alarm rising in his heart. This couldn't be the only entrance. He instinctively knew that this gap was just a decoy, and the real entrance must be somewhere else.
But he didn't stay for too long, nor did he consider these details. Since he had decided to break through these layers of defense, he had to be decisive and swift. Without the slightest hesitation, he entered the gap directly.
The air was filled with a damp smell. There was almost no light around, only the occasional faint glow filtering through the cracks. Su Ming took every step with extreme caution, his own rapid breathing and footsteps lingering in his ears. He carefully moved through the darkness, pondering his next move.
"Here..." Su Ming paused, slowing his pace slightly as he scanned the surroundings. This place was clearly unlike any building he had seen before. The walls were covered in mottled cracks, and the ground had been eroded beyond recognition by time. Every inch of this space seemed abandoned by time, and this sense of desolation, in a way, made him feel even more threatened.
"I can't be discovered." He reminded himself secretly, and the tension deep in his heart became more and more intense, as if countless hidden arrows would be shot from all directions in the next second.
Just as he was about to continue, a faint sound suddenly reached his ears, like the rustling of paper, or perhaps a whisper. Su Ming quickly stopped, his eyes fixed, his ears perked up, carefully distinguishing it. The sound did not continue, but abruptly stopped for a few seconds. Su Ming frowned, a hint of unease. Clearly, he was not the only one to enter this building.
"I can't let others discover my presence." He thought to himself, moving quickly along the wall, avoiding possible sight, and advancing silently into the depths of the building.
A few minutes later, Su Ming finally arrived at a relatively closed, small room. The door was ajar, and through the crack, he could see a faint light coming from inside. His breathing suddenly became heavier, and his heartbeat began to accelerate. This place must be the command center of the "black shadow."
He took a deep breath, quickly fumbled for the doorknob, and gently pushed it open a crack. He peered through the crack to see what was inside. The room contained only a large table, covered with documents and scattered papers. A thin man sat at the table, his head bent over the documents, occasionally flipping through them. His back seemed lonely and cold, as if he had blended seamlessly into the silent building.
Su Ming was slightly stunned, then a strong intuition struck him—this was the man he was looking for, the one behind the scenes. This man's temperament was completely different from those of ordinary pursuers. Behind him lay a powerful deterrent and an unfathomable conspiracy.
