Chapter 282 The Unpopular Revolutionary

Chapter 282 The Unpopular Revolutionary

"Comrades, I want to introduce you to a new friend, or perhaps an old friend, who will become an important asset to our revolution."

Alice's appearance in the hall immediately caused a stir. Her white-haired, blood-red figure was exposed to the crowd. Yes, it was her, the one who turned the world into what it is today, Alice Delalaye.

Admiration, surprise, joy, anger, hesitation, fear. Alice looked around and noticed the varied emotions of the people sitting in the audience.

Alice understood all of this. She had not participated in the early revolutionary actions of the syndicate, and she also knew from books that her past actions were complex and that people had different interpretations of her.

Alice didn't have many supporters. At the entire syndicate congress, more than half of the people did not support Alice's entry into the syndicate's leadership, which was an outcome Alice had anticipated.

But even after the syndicate meeting, people still surrounded her.

“Comrade Alice… Darlington Butler of the Veterans Association, my father’s brother once worked under you.”

“I remember, Smedley Butler.”

"Yes."

“These are Jacobins. You may not know about Jacobins. Jacobin thought... originated from your writings. Those are members of the Fighting Proletarian League, and this dwarf comrade is.”

Several young men and women stood here; most of them came from working-class or peasant families, and their clothes were old but neat.

"Hello, Comrade De La Lere... We're from Kansas..."

"Alice remembers that it was a front-line city."

"That's right... Kansas is at war, and the local syndicate militia is resisting the Union army's offensive, but as far as I know, the Kansas Syndicate Congress has begun to relocate..."

Is the situation dangerous?

"More or less... The internal struggles within the syndicate are just as fierce as the external struggles. Someone as new as you is certainly not welcome. Comrade Reed is only patching things up now... Yesterday, the syndicate's troops attacked Massachusetts in the northeast, but the attack was thwarted."

"Alice told him that the guild's current strength is insufficient to sustain the offensive."

"That wasn't Comrade Reed's decision; it was an order from some people within the union... Comrade Reed's authority isn't as great as we imagine."

"Perhaps... The main focus of the labor union should be on defense... Those machines can't possibly produce pots and pans today and airplanes and cannons tomorrow."

“You are right, but other comrades may not think so... We Jacobins support your position, Comrade Alice.”

"And our Fighting Proletarian League... The comrades at the syndicate are too superstitious about their ideas, and some comrades are too impatient. Our proposals have been rejected time and again."

"That's right, and the discipline of some units is really... even worse than that of the Grey Shirts."

"Yes........"

"Let me introduce myself. Comrade Alice, I am Georgie Konstantinovova Zhukov, former Commander-in-Chief of the Lucyce Revolutionary League and Military Advisor to the International Brigades. This is my colleague, Milina Nikolayevna Tukhachevsna, former Marshal of the Lucyce Revolutionary League and Military Advisor to the International Brigades."

Two young women of dwarven descent, dressed in faded old uniforms of the Principality of Dwarves adorned with red stars and collar tabs, saluted Alice. They, too, had not been accepted by the syndicate, a characteristic that later became associated with the revolutionaries who came to Colombia.

Alice nodded in response, quickly realizing that the rifts within the union might be widening.

She hesitated. The syndicate was the most successful revolutionary force in Colombia at the moment, and she was undermining it. Talking with these marginalized people would undoubtedly bring out a new and dangerous idea.

“We’ve all thought about it, Comrade Alice… the syndicate is a loose organization, and a loose organization cannot cope with the dangerous revolutionary situation….”

“Anarchists… Syndicalists… Commi… International Organization for the Liberation of Labour… Socialist Party… Several heads are buzzing, each saying they want to go in this direction or that direction… Such a revolution will not succeed, just like the revolution in Lucy’s Empire a few years ago!”

"The revolution of Seris is the direction we must learn from. We need to have a core, a common idea and belief, to complete our path."

"We believe in you, Comrade De La Leigh, you are an outstanding soldier..."

Alice fell silent. She looked around and saw Rafis, who was already keeping watch in the corridor, signaling to her.

"Alice... needs time to think..."

"It's alright, Comrade Alice. If you've made up your mind, come find us. Or, you can simply pretend it never happened... However, you must know that no matter what you do, you will have to pay the price for your choices."

"Whether you join us or choose to stand by, we will continue along the path we have chosen. Colombia is the land of the people and will remain their homeland."

One of them said this, and then the others silently left, as if they had never been there.

Alice stood there, stunned. She recalled the syndicate meeting, where they welcomed her support but disliked her meddling.

She understood, and she recalled more of her past—she remembered her original intention in establishing Ameliacy—she had a great dream: to free people from ignorance, poverty, and inequality.

She was an ambitious woman who wanted the world to follow her path—that people would transform the world through their own efforts, that industrial complexes would be built on the earth to change the world and society, that an equal society would be established, and that we would march toward the glorious space.

In her dream, there was a home, a home for all people.

She clenched her fists and gasped for breath—a sharp pain shot through her head, her consciousness was somewhat blurred, and her crimson eyes shone brightly.

"I... Alice... am so thirsty... Alice wants...."

A warm sensation washed over her, and she opened her mouth and bit down.

"Phew... thank goodness, Raphis is here. Alice... slow down... I almost forgot that vampires really do drink blood."

Suddenly, bat wings drooped behind her. Alice closed her eyes and bit Rafis's neck. The latter was drinking a bottle of nutrient solution to replenish her lost energy.
