Chapter 422 The Great Rift
Chapter 422 The Great Rift
"The elevator car is about to descend. Passengers, please hold on tight and sit down as instructed by the safety officer. Vibrations, noise, and flashes caused by atmospheric friction during elevator operation are normal phenomena. In case of malfunction or accident, please follow the instructions of the safety officer."
Alicia sat in her seat, the seatbelt and safety device automatically locking—on Amelanxi, there was now more than one such facility. Elevator facilities that led directly to space had been built across the territories of major countries. Around these enormous space elevators, new cities were springing up, constantly spurring urbanization.
Space travel is becoming simpler and more convenient. The starry sky that the farsighted once looked up at no longer needs to be looked up at, but is a real, tangible new world.
Alicia never imagined that the words Alice uttered that night when she looked up at the stars would eventually become their reality.
"When mankind looks up at the sky, they have already completed ninety-nine percent of their journey to get there."
Now, their journey is complete, but their advance will not stop.
The car plunged violently towards the ground, propelling the rocket backward. The anti-gravity core and carbon fiber composite cables together faced the test of gravity. When Alicia looked out of the car through the double-layered explosion-proof glass, the earth shone brightly under the night sky. Giant urban clusters connected the entire western part of Amelanxi, and man-made buildings became forests and mountains.
This is a brilliant world—humanity has stood up again after the disaster—Alicia's journey is not for anything else, but to see someone.
She was a person who upheld her duty and dedicated everything to humanity. Everything she did was to protect humanity. She witnessed the golden age of mankind, she witnessed disasters, and she survived the darkest period of the past.
Amelanxi has never been an ordinary planet, not in the past, not now—it has its own will and its own story.
In what was once a wasteland ring, radioactive materials were carried away by the wind, and the steel debris left behind was cleaned up. The most advanced facilities in the Amelan West Sector were built here.
Alicia walked through those corridors, every structure, every corner, driven by a will—something Alicia had faced before.
"haven't seen you for a long time."
ENIAC's virtual avatar appeared on every screen. Over unimaginable long periods of time, this colossal planetary computer had woven different identities for itself, some of which were once worshipped as gods.
"Our agreement is complete, Alicia. Throughout my long history, the human species has been efficient and resilient."
Alicia simply nodded when she heard Eniac's praise—she looked at the countless Eniacs and asked only one question.
Where is Raffarin Lau?
The words had barely left his lips when the unremarkable building began to change—the planet itself was an extension of Eniac, capable of flipping continents and causing seas to rise, so transforming a building was hardly a challenge.
"This is the human machine—a machine designed to squeeze every last drop of human potential."
Even ENIAC had to admit that human perseverance exceeded its imagination. Raffarin Low was connected to pipes and electrodes; the device itself, designed by humans, was like a torture instrument.
Raffarin Lau was pale and emaciated; even she could not have survived unscathed in such a torture device.
But now, her mission is over, and all the warp influences on the planet north of Amelanxi, in northern Louisiana, and in the wasteland ring have been wiped out.
Now, it's time to put an end to the war on this planet, and she needs a rest.
She opened her eyes, incredibly weak. It took her an unknown amount of time before she could feel the light—light entering her retina, waking her light-sensitive organs, and allowing her to see.
"it's all over?"
She looked up. She had been lying in that machine for far too long, spending countless years in such life-sustaining devices, ensuring that humanity could be saved.
"The mission here has come to an end."
ENIAC's voice rang out, emphasizing "here," and a mechanical arm extended to help her dress. Raffarin Low saw Alicia beside him.
"Our plan was a success."
Raffarin Loe simply nodded weakly. She had been watching all along, but now she had finally finished her duties.
"Your journey has ended, but humanity's journey has not yet begun."
Eniac lowered the display screen in front of the two—it was a star map. The virtual figure on the screen tapped it casually—and the earth immediately began to shake.
Raffarin Low knew where ENIAC had clicked—the Sentinel system, one of the United Nations’ secret sectors, where a dying red dwarf star lay.
There is also a watchtower built by humans to observe the entire galaxy.
"Sentinel Array"
"The Sentinel Array is highly intact. This machine activated it via a faster-than-light information transmission array and obtained information about the entire galaxy."
The two then looked at the star map—what they saw was a scar.
A scar runs across the entire Milky Way, dividing it into two parts. At the edge of the Milky Way, in what was once defined by humans as the vacuum zone at the galaxy's edge, traces of planetary systems begin to appear.
"The Milky Way is merging with the Andromeda Galaxy, but the Milky Way today..."
"But it's not a normal galaxy, I see..."
The Great Rift that runs across the entire Milky Way has swallowed up a large number of galaxies, and now, the merging of the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way has begun.
If the supermassive black hole that holds up the Andromeda Galaxy were to merge with the supermassive black hole in the Milky Way, which has become the core of a rift... no one dares to imagine what the future would hold.
"This large fissure is a remnant of the disaster from back then."
"The reason why magic can still be used in other star systems and on other planets is because of the existence of the Great Rift, which makes the entire Milky Way galaxy an area that magic can influence."
"And we are on the edge of the great rift."
"The Earth is right behind us."
