Chapter 88: Sending the Painting, Where is She?
Chapter 88: Sending the Painting, Where is She?
Su Mowan didn't put down her pen until the sun was setting.
She picked up the drawing paper, blew on it, and was very satisfied. So she called Qinghe Yinshuang to move the table, chairs, and painting tools inside.
After dinner, before Murong Jing could even call someone to urge her, Su Mowan took the painting and went over by herself.
Since the cat would crawl under her blankets, Su Mowan decided to sleep in Fenghua Palace tonight. Unsurprisingly, she ran into Shen Muyue again on the way.
Shen Muyue was followed by four maids: Caiwei, Caihong, Yumei, and Yulan. At first glance, her entourage was considerably more impressive than Su Mowan's.
Su Mowan, holding a scroll, stopped when she saw the four of them approaching.
"Where is Consort Shen going?"
Shen Muyue stopped and smoothed her hair, her face beaming with pride.
"Sister Su is also going out of the courtyard? Are you going to Fenghua Palace? We can go together!"
Su Mowan paused, then looked up at the sky, somewhat surprised.
Could it be that Murong Jing summoned Shen Muyue to serve him in bed?
This is awkward.
Seeing that she didn't move, Qinghe, who was standing behind her, whispered "Consort Su," which made Shen Muyue on the other side even more smug.
"Why aren't you leaving, Sister Su? Could it be that you haven't received the Prince's summons?"
Shen Muyue's face was as arrogant as could be.
Su Mowan found it rather displeasing; she hated people who showed off their intelligence for no reason.
He immediately sneered: "Consort Shen only went there because the Prince summoned her? Well, I'm sorry, but even without the Prince's summons, I would go every day."
"you--"
Shen Muyue had finally found an opportunity to step on Su Mowan's head and was just about to show off her superiority when Su Mowan's words left her speechless.
"Consort Shen, please take your time. We'll go ahead first."
As Su Mowan spoke, she strode past Shen Muyue and her group to the front.
After she and Qinghe had walked far away, Shen Muyue spat indignantly from behind.
"It's just a sparrow, thinking it's become a phoenix just because it flew up to a branch! How dare it act so arrogantly in front of me! Doesn't it know it'll bite off more than it can chew?"
Yu Mei and Yu Lan, who were at the back, lowered their heads and pretended to be deaf and mute. Cai Wei stepped forward and offered a word of advice.
"Miss, don't take it to heart. After all, she's born out of wedlock and can't compare to you!"
A disdainful glint flashed in Shen Muyue's eyes, and she snorted with a crooked mouth.
"What makes her comparable to me? She can't play the zither, chess, calligraphy, or painting; she doesn't understand poetry, literature, or etiquette. She's just a good-for-nothing who only knows how to fight! Why would I lower myself to compare with her? It's a joke!"
Caihong gave Caiwei a wink and stepped forward to echo her mistress's words, "Miss, you are of noble birth, so there's no need to compare yourself to her. There's a world of difference between heaven and earth. But Miss, this is a rare opportunity. We finally managed to persuade Granny Zhao. If you miss this chance, Su Mowan will be the one who benefits."
Reminded by Caihong, Shen Muyue immediately lifted her skirt and strode towards Fenghua Palace.
"Hurry up and catch up! I refuse to believe that that bitch Su Mowan would dare to ruin my plans!"
Seeing that her young mistress's impetuous demeanor was completely gone, Caiwei and Caihong silently followed behind, not daring to say a word of advice.
Su Mowan arrived at the entrance of Fenghua Palace and saw Granny Zhao looking on expectantly.
Of course, she wasn't the one they were hoping for.
Seeing her lead Qinghe up the steps, Granny Zhao took two steps closer, bowed, and smiled appropriately: "Greetings, Consort Su."
Su Mowan glanced at Zhao Mama without changing her expression, and then replied gently, "Zhao Mama, there's no need for such formalities."
Before Zhao Mama could straighten up, Su Mowan led Qinghe toward the palace gate, and Zhao Mama immediately stopped her with a smile.
"Consort Su, please wait."
Su Mowan paused in her steps.
A slight smile played on her lips as she turned around: "Is there anything else, Granny Zhao?"
Seeing the smile on her face, Granny Zhao was slightly startled, but she composed herself and asked, "I wonder what business Consort Su has with the Prince? Did the Prince summon you?"
"That's not true."
Su Mowan took two steps back and looked at Granny Zhao with a smile.
Although she wasn't familiar with Granny Zhao, she didn't dislike her, even though she knew that Granny Zhao and Shen Muyue must have some secret dealings.
But she felt that being Zhao Mama was also a difficult job, especially dealing with someone as unreasonable as Shen Muyue.
So even though Zhao Mama's words made her a little unhappy, she still smiled in response.
Granny Zhao cleared her throat.
“Consort Su, it’s not that this old servant is ignorant of the rules, but tonight… it’s Consort Shen who will be accompanying me.”
Su Mowan said "Oh".
She smiled and said, "I understand. I'll be leaving in a bit. There's no need for you to make things so difficult, Granny Zhao."
Su Mowan thought that after hearing what Zhao Mama had said, she would stop bothering her. But before Su Mowan could even turn around, Zhao Mama hurriedly called out to her again.
"Consort Su! If you have nothing else to do, why don't you come again tomorrow? Consort Shen will be here shortly!"
Does this mean she should make way?
Su Mowan frowned and thought for a while before she was about to speak, but Qinghe spoke up first, expressing her dissatisfaction. She couldn't help but say, "Granny Zhao, Consort Su has important matters to discuss with the Prince!"
When Zhao Mama saw Qinghe speak up against her, the smile on her face faded.
Su Mowan raised her hand to interrupt Qinghe's dissatisfaction, "Since that's the case, let's do as Granny Zhao says. I'll come again tomorrow. Qinghe, let's go."
Seeing that she was easy to talk to, Granny Zhao immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
However, before Su Mowan had taken two steps, Feng Yue came out of the hall and, seeing her going down the steps, immediately called out to her.
"Consort Su, please wait!"
Su Mowan recognized Feng Yue's voice and turned around. However, before Feng Yue could speak again, she threw the painting in her hand at him.
"This is for the Prince. Please have Commander Feng deliver it on his behalf."
Feng Yue reached out and caught it.
But then he said, "Is it Consort Su..."
"No need to say more. If Your Highness is satisfied, please ask him to approve 100,000 taels of silver for me first thing tomorrow morning as a reward for his hard work."
Feng Yue held the scroll, unable to move forward or backward, feeling it was burning hot.
And what Consort Su said...
He was a little hesitant to pass the message on to his master.
Although Granny Zhao maintained a good expression on her face, her heart was in turmoil.
Consort Su asked for 100,000 taels of silver so casually. Was it really the right decision for her to help Consort Shen tonight...?
Su Mowan resolutely left.
So Feng Yue had no choice but to take the hot scroll to the study, leaving only Granny Zhao looking uneasy in front of the hall.
Feng Yue arrived at the study, knocked nervously on the door, and called out, "Master."
"Come in."
Murong Jing's long, strong fingers held a wolf-hair brush as he wielded the ink.
Pushing open the door, Feng Yue handed the scroll in his hand to Murong Jing: "Master, this was sent by Consort Su, who said it was for you."
Murong Jing stopped writing and looked up.
"What about her?"
