Chapter 25 Eating Meat
Chapter 25 Eating Meat
Lin Fan touched his bleeding forehead. He had been hit pretty hard. The Soul-Suppressing Pearl could reduce the pain, but he felt like he had a concussion and was completely dizzy.
As soon as Lin Fan sat up, the blood-covered Red-Clothed Curse knelt on top of him.
Seeing a gruesome, exposed wound on the snow-white mountain peak, the contrast between the beautiful figure and the terrible injury created a sudden visual shock that made Lin Fan feel as if his soul had left his body for a moment.
However, Lin Fan was already used to it; with the Soul-Suppressing Pearl around, he would be fine.
Lin Fan glanced at the red-clothed curse; the wounds on her body were exactly the same as those in the illusion. It seemed that his attacks in the illusion had indeed all taken effect.
"Hey, you stinking old man, why is she still here?" Lin Fan said angrily.
“Hey, nephew, you did a good job just now, but if this little injury can kill the flesh relic, do you think it has the ability to slaughter the people of an entire county?” The dog-skinned Taoist said as he began to move.
He made a hand seal and pointed at Lin Fan, "Lin Fan, rise!"
……
Lin Fan didn't move, and an awkward silence fell over the room. Even the red-robed mantra turned to look at the dog-skinned Taoist. The cut surface of the headless neck seemed to hold a puzzled expression.
"Oh dear, I forgot that my object manipulation technique can't be used on people." The dog-skinned Taoist slapped his forehead, looking apologetic.
"You don't know any magic of manipulating objects! Just tell me what you need me for!" Lin Fan said angrily, he had really had enough.
“Nephew, then you stand in the center of that magic array,” the dog-skinned Taoist said apologetically.
Without wasting words, Lin Fan stood up and walked through the body of the red-clothed curse, heading towards the center of the magic circle drawn by the dog-skinned Taoist with black dog blood.
The Taoist priest shoved the hoe into Lin Fan's arms, picked up the wooden sword, and began chanting incantations while stepping on the Void Step.
Soon, all the black dog-blood graffiti in the room lit up, emitting an eerie glow.
Lin Fan didn't sense anything unusual.
The woman in red, however, clutched her head on the ground and screamed in agony.
"Ah~ Ah~ Ah~ Ah ah~ Ah ah ah!"
All her wounds glowed red, and the graffiti came to life, standing up like stick figures and burrowing into her wounds.
Seeing this horrifying scene, Lin Fan felt his teeth chattering. Just imagining countless stick figures desperately squeezing into his wound was painful.
The Red-Clothed Curse twisted upside down, its body facing upwards, its limbs twisted and crawling wildly on the walls and roof of Lin Fan's house, like a spider wearing human skin.
Just as Lin Fan felt nauseous and wanted to vomit, it was finally over.
The dog-skinned Taoist priest seemed exhausted, lying on the floor of Lin Fan's house, panting heavily.
Lin Fan made an excuse to go to the toilet and hurriedly ran outside.
He stuck his finger down his throat and vomited up all the wild vegetable porridge and dog blood soup he had eaten yesterday.
Lin Fan rummaged through the vomit and found the Soul-Suppressing Pearl.
Just as he was wiping the beads clean and putting them away, the dog-skinned Taoist priest was already standing behind him.
"Nephew, what are you doing?"
"Now that the trouble is over, it's okay for me to spit out the disgusting stuff you fed me!" Lin Fan said angrily.
“Oh, why bother? We’ve been through thick and thin together. Why don’t you trust me, nephew?” Yun Xiangzi said regretfully.
Lin Fan ignored him and went back to his room to lie down and rest, thinking that he probably hadn't seen the Soul-Suppressing Pearl.
"Taoist Master, is the Red Robe Curse really solved just like that?" Lin Fan actually felt it was a bit unreal, because this charlatan really seemed to have solved the Red Robe Curse, and it felt like he solved it too easily.
"Of course that's resolved. She won't come looking for you again in your lifetime," the dog-skinned Taoist priest assured him, patting his chest.
"That's good." Lin Fan turned over, preparing to take a nap; he hadn't slept for two days.
"My God, has my house been attacked by bandits?" Lin Shuixiu's loud voice reached Lin Fan's ears.
He didn't know how long he had slept, and when he opened his eyes it was already broad daylight.
"Xiao Fan, you little brat, are you trying to destroy the house while I'm gone for a day?"
Lin Fan slowly sat up, his body heavy with hunger and exhaustion. He looked at his mother listlessly, unsure of what excuse to make.
Fortunately, the Taoist priest with the dog skin stepped in and said he had borrowed some furniture and asked Lin Fan to help perform a ritual for the deceased.
Although Lin Shuixiu was unhappy, she couldn't show it in front of the Taoist priest.
“Master… Xiao Fan, the black dog was bought by Sanpang, and we haven’t paid him yet.”
Lin Fan simply went along with him, saying, "Oh, you don't need to tell me about the expenses for the ritual; I'm just helping out. Why don't you ask Er Gou's family for the money?"
The dog-skinned Taoist priest grew anxious and whispered in Lin Fan's ear, "This money was spent for you."
Lin Fan replied softly, "I'll pay you back when I make money as a Taoist priest."
"You!" The dog-skinned Taoist priest's goatee stood on end.
Lin Fan pushed the dog-skinned Taoist priest aside and spoke to Lin Shuixiu.
"Mom, let's not waste this dog, let's eat it, the Taoist priest is hungry too!"
The dog-skinned Taoist priest roared, "You little brat, you spend my money and eat my dog!"
Soon the steaming hot dog meat was served.
The black dog was thin and tough, and its meat didn't taste good at all. Moreover, Lin Fan's family didn't have any seasonings, and it even had a fishy and musty smell.
But the mother and son, who hadn't eaten meat in a long time, ate with great relish; they hadn't had any oily food for a long time.
The Taoist priest, who usually ate well, frowned and complained that Lin Shuixiu's cooking was too poor, but he still reached out his chopsticks.
After all, it's my own money, and it would be a waste if I didn't eat it.
"Taoist priest, eat more." Lin Fan said, snatching the meat from the dog-skinned Taoist priest's hand and putting it into his own bowl, then putting a large piece on his mother's plate as well.
The black dog was very thin and was quickly devoured by the three men. Lin Fan used a broken bone to clean his teeth, feeling incredibly satisfied. He still had many things to do, but at least he had passed this hurdle.
"Mom," Lin Fan said to Lin Shuixiu's retreating figure, "I'm going to the city to cultivate Taoism."
Lin Shuixiu paused in her washing of dishes. "Why bother cultivating Taoism! Why not learn something good instead of this kind of thing..."
Lin Shuixiu noticed that Yun Xiangzi was still there, so she didn't continue.
Lin Fan didn't answer, but gave Yun Xiangzi a look. The other person scratched his head, seemingly very unhappy that Lin Fan had always treated him like a tool.
He had no choice but to go up to Lin Shuixiu and boast about how good his senior brother was.
"Mom, the Taoist priest said that I will be able to eat my fill every day from now on, and I will have meat a few times a month, so you don't have to worry about me."
"The Taoist priest also said that once I've mastered the skill, I'll be able to make silver. That's silver! I've hardly ever touched silver in my life. I'll bring it back for you to use then."
Lin Fan didn't actually believe the Taoist priest's nonsense, but he described it to Lin Shuixiu in such a vivid and convincing way that it sounded more real than the truth.
“Okay, it’s good that the child is growing up and has his own ideas.” Although Lin Shuixiu was reluctant, she knew that she shouldn’t interfere with her child’s future.
Although she worried that her child might have to deal with demons and monsters in the future, which could be dangerous, she couldn't really let him stay with her and guard this small plot of land for the rest of his life. She still had to seize any opportunity that came her way.
Yun Xiangzi went back for the time being, saying she would come to pick up Lin Fan tomorrow.
Lin Fan didn't have much to pack, so he carried his hoe to the fields, wanting to help his mother with some more work.
As the sun set, Lin Fan stared blankly at the black earth before him.
He hated this place when he first arrived, but he was a little reluctant to leave.
Lin Fan picked up a bit of black soil and rubbed it carefully in his hands. This land, and the house he was living in now, used to belong to his family.
Sixteen years ago, when Lin Fan was born, his father suddenly disappeared, taking with him the family's land deeds and all their money.
He sold all of them to Lin the Rich Man and even borrowed money from him.
Although the wealthy Lin waived the debts owed to Lin Fan's family, the land and house could no longer belong to them.
Later, my maternal grandparents couldn't accept this change and soon passed away one after the other.
Now Lin Fan is also leaving.
