Chapter 138: Ray vs Katarina 2
Chapter 138: Ray vs Katarina 2
The minds of humans were like a horror movie for Katarina; many found them interesting and fascinating, spending their time researching them, but for her, they were just tools to pass the time.
Most of them had the same goals: sex, working, and money. Even someone like Ray was a boring test subject; what drove him to such madness was his hunger for power, and the other lay in his insecurities of his own powers.
Nothing was equal in the universe; only one thing was equal: the end. With such a mindset, Katarina’s magic ran wild. 4 billion people lived in that city, 4 billion humans that each had their separate journey from her.
"This is the tragedy of life: you will get crushed by those who are stronger."
Invisible hands grew from her in the air, attacking any human that lived in that area. In less than a minute, the crowded city was silent. Only two people had survived.
Ray stopped his domain, even though he didn’t care about killing; usually he avoided killing innocent people as much as possible; even his worst massacres were a joke compared to what he saw in that city.
"What is necessary?" Ray asked with disgust, The only scenario that Ray could find himself in in which he would have done the same thing was if his own life were in the line, yet Katarina had just done it to fuel her magic in the physical world.
"You’re ready to put yourself through hell to get stronger; I would rather put the world through hell." Minds worked as fuel for her magic, creating a white hollow above her head.
For her magic to affect the physical world, she had to use an enormous amount of thought, unlike others who could create projectiles rather easily; she had to pay a price for that.
"Be happy, Ray; you will witness my true strength!" Her smile challenged Ray to attack first.
Raising his head, Ray watched the blue sky. "I didn’t want to do this, Katarina, but you have to die." He dismissed his weapon, standing on the ground with bare fists.
Even in his previous life, he had thought of ways to counter Katarina; there was always a way, but he had refused to go on that route. However, she had turned into a monster beyond control. "No! She was always this way."
One thousand blood crystals exploded inside of Ray’s body, a magic that he couldn’t withstand, so as a reaction, it wanted to deflect it outside; instead, he guided all of them to his brain. The cells of his brain broke apart as magic took their place. Instead of his usual logic, his magic wanted only one thing: to kill.
"Save me." He sent the message to Jade as his last part of humility left out his brain. It was too late to back down; there did not exist a human named Ray, only a killing machine.
He would have killed his opponent or would have simply died.
A strike came from his side to his heart; using his fists, he blocked the kick. The flesh and bones of his hand were destroyed completely, but with no care, he started his own counterattack.
His domain swallowed half of the city, with blood projectiles raining down from it. In the middle of the air, a white flower petal grew small thorns, throwing them at all the projectiles.
"You can’t even talk anymore!" Katarina laughed as her fist penetrated Ray’s shoulder. Another clone of Ray attacked from her back, and another one from the left.
Dodging all of them made her step back; all of them charged at the same time with bare fists. Having the advantage, she stayed on defense. All she had to do was injure Ray until his healing magic ran out.
A swish voice came from her side suddenly, but a clone melted into blood, using the distraction for another clone attack from behind. With a burst of her magic, she melted it too, but the other two used the small opening.
"This one is the real you!" Her hand gripped his neck, crushing the bones and flesh, but the whole figure exploded into blood on her clothes.
With obvious anger, she looked above; tens of Rays were standing in the air with no way to detect which one was the real one. "The two clones of his domain should be stronger ones! Turning off his other thoughts, he can be such a monster..."
More clones attacked her in the hope of finding an opening. She couldn’t read their minds, even though she excelled at fighting. A burst of mind magic melted all the clones around her.
From the blood of one of the clones, Ray raised again, "This one should be one of the main ones..." White blades turned it into shreds, but instead of blood, they cut away real hands and flesh.
With a disturbing smile, Ray jumped on her surprised face; he had no hands to attack, but his teeth still worked just fine.
Katarina teleported back, yet a surge of pain caused her to scream. Touching the source, she found no nose on her face. On the other side, Ray spat on her torn nose on the ground while his hands grew again.
Trying to heal the wound, more attacks rained down on her. All she could do was turn off her pain sensors; a wound like that wouldn’t kill her either.
Soon she turned into a toy that Ray played with, but still, both of them continued their constant back and forth.
"He’s adjusting himself to my fighting style; if this thing takes longer, it will be bad." After another round, she made sure of her conclusion.
"You know Ray, you are not the only one with a domain..." A drop of sweat ran down on her forehead. After that move one of them would have standing on the corpse of the other one.
"Mind’s door."
