Chapter 519: Sleep
Chapter 519: Sleep
"Always give what belongs to Caesar to Caesar."
A vein could not help but appear on Simon’s forehead when he heard Caesar’s arrogant words.
He was pissed that a child was being so arrogant with him and was giving him this much problem.
Give what belongs to Caesar to Caesar?
Simon felt like giving him a good beating since he definitely deserved it.
Although Simon was pissed, he controlled himself.
He looked at Caesar with a much colder gaze.
"If I have something that belongs to you, then that means it’s something I took from Lucien Mercer."
"So tell me Caesar, if you wanted something that Lucien Mercer possessed, why didn’t you allow me and the Grey Pact complete the mission?"
"We already had Lucien in our possession, and we could have brought him back to the clan and you could have gotten what belongs to you without any hassle."
"Why did you do something foolish? Why did you kill the Grey Pact?"
Caesar’s lips curled up slightly beneath his mask.
"Nobody can hear us. You can shout or scream all you want. You can say I’m the one responsible for the death of the Grey Pact all you want, but nobody is going to hear you."
Simon chuckled softly.
"I don’t mind. I want to kill you myself. I don’t want any other person to take your life or for you to rot in a prison cell."
Caesar’s eyes flashed with a cold light.
"Survive tomorrow, then you can start talking about killing me."
Caesar turned, giving Simon a cold side glance.
"As for your spatial ring. I’ll pick it up from your corpse tomorrow."
Caesar walked away, and Simon’s eyes flashed with a cold light.
"Why don’t you open my cell and try to take it from me by force?"
Caesar did not pause for even a single second.
He kept on walking.
"Trust me, Broken Halo. If I want to take it from you by force, I can do it. There are some lines that even I cannot cross."
Caesar’s voice faded away, and Simon narrowed his eyes slightly as he looked in the direction Caesar left.
When he was completely certain that Caesar was gone, he clicked his tongue.
"Tch. I want to cut off his head now."
[I think I’m beginning to like him.]
Simon looked at his heart with a raised brow.
"What?"
[I mean. He’s the first one to put you in this sort of dilemma. And he pisses you off so much. I like him.]
Simon narrowed his eyes, then he scoffed.
[Then marry him then.]
Lilith chuckled, and Simon scoffed once again.
’This Caesar is truly a bastard and a backstabber. And that old demon was truly a fool.’
Although Caesar never answered him when he asked why he decided to kill the Grey Pact when he could have gotten what ’belonged to him’ if he had allowed them to complete their mission, Simon could guess what Caesar’s plan was.
’That bastard wanted First Blade to kill the Grey Pact, bring me back to the clan alive, bring Lucien back to the clan alive or dead, or at the very least, bring Lucien’s spatial ring to the clan and give it to him.’
’That old fool wouldn’t know, but Caesar would have planted the corpses of the Grey Pact in my room as he did just now. And I would have been taken away by the Shadow Inquisitors.’
’First Blade might have tried to prevent them from arresting me, but there were three Shadow Inquisitors, and all of them were Greater Demons... Two were Minor Greater Demons while the last was a Superior Greater Demon.’
’He would not be able to kill the three without causing a commotion in the clan.’
’Eventually, I’ll be arrested and maybe First Blade would be killed by the Shadow Inquisitors for trying to prevent an arrest or for attacking them.’
’At the end of the day, he planned on killing three birds with one stone.’
’Killing me and First Blade while getting the Fleshwood’s heart resin in the process.’
’I know that I’m also a backstabber, but Caesar takes it to a whole other level.’
’I really want to kill him.’
Simon released a deep sigh, then he looked at the ceiling of his cell.
’Fortunately for me, I was able to kill First Blade and completely disrupt his plans.’
After having this thought, Simon then recalled Caesar looking at the Chaos Wraps.
He frowned deeply.
’Don’t tell me that he knows how I killed First Blade? But that should be impossible. I never perceived the presence of another demon or living thing for that matter in the frozen expanse.’
’How could he know? And if he does, does that mean he was watching me and the others the entire time?’
Simon’s frown deepened.
’This is bad.’
Simon exhaled deeply, then he decided to calm his nerves and relax.
There was nothing he could do right now.
He obviously couldn’t cultivate using the hell stones he had since that would be suspicious, and he could not communicate through his Grave Mark.
Since there was nothing he could do, he decided to sleep and wait for the next day.
Ever since he left for the mission, he had not gotten a proper sleep.
He would need his mind and body to be sharp for tomorrow.
So, he placed his head on the surface of his hands and slept.
The prison corridor remained silent for a long time.
Hours passed.
The torches mounted on the walls flickered occasionally, causing shadows to dance across the cold stone walls.
Simon slept peacefully.
He did not toss and turn.
He did not worry.
He did not wake up in the middle of the night.
To an outsider, it would have looked absurd.
A demon who would most likely be sentenced to death in some hours was sleeping more comfortably than the guards assigned to watch him.
The night continued in silence.
Outside, news of his arrest continued to spread throughout the academy and the clan.
But inside the prison, Simon slept until dawn.
Tomorrow would decide whether he lived or died.
