Chapter 1256: She Will Surely Keep You at Arm’s Length
Chapter 1256: She Will Surely Keep You at Arm’s Length
Thomas Fisher’s proactive attitude made Easton Holmes frown instantly, "I don’t think you’re ready at all."
His words carried a double meaning; firstly, that the other party wasn’t genuinely prepared to accept their opinions, and secondly, that the other party wasn’t ready to fully accept Alice Turner’s unannounced departure.
Thomas understood completely what Easton meant. Just moments ago, he was all relaxed and ready to accept the teachings of his brothers, but suddenly he fell into silence, and his expression turned rather unpleasant in an instant.
"I think your behavior today is very immature. Not only did it hurt Auntie’s feelings, but you’ve also invisibly added to Auntie’s hostility toward her." Seeing Thomas silent with his head down, Easton didn’t wait quietly but spoke again, this time more directly and bluntly.
Upon hearing Easton speak again, Thomas raised his head that had just drooped down, tilting it to look at his elder brother, who was at some distance from him. He stared blankly at his brother for a while, then slowly opened his mouth, "I thought my mom really liked her, but what I didn’t expect was, my mom was just acting in front of me."
"Did I hurt her feelings? She’s been the one hurting mine. She actually went behind my back to find Alice and made her leave me."
He was deceived by his mom, and it had been going on for so long. If he hadn’t accidentally overheard his mom and aunt discussing this today, he wouldn’t know how long this lie would have continued.
Recalling that Alice’s departure was closely related to his mom, Thomas felt anger toward her. He always thought he was lucky to have an open-minded mom, but in the end, his mom was no different from the rest.
His mom, just like others, felt she was an undeserving woman because she had been divorced, and from this alone, thought she was not worthy of him.
"Did you have no responsibility at all for her leaving without a word over a year ago?" Easton’s question once again silenced Thomas. Looking at the silent Thomas, he continued, "If you made her feel you were a man worth entrusting her life to, do you think she would have left without a word?"
He looked at his youngest brother, hoping in his heart that his little brother could fully understand that there were other factors involved, but ultimately, the most crucial element lay with his little brother himself.
Since Alice left over a year ago, Thomas did nothing but drink his sorrows away, lamenting at his fate, and now he even resented his mother, Autumn York.
He pinned all the blame on his mom. When he left home just now, he indignantly said he would never return to that house again, even shouting about severing mother-son ties with his mom.
Now, hearing Easton’s relentless questioning, Thomas suddenly felt like a damn bastard himself. Clearly, it was his lack of effort that caused Alice to see no hope and leave, yet he was blaming others instead.
"Big brother! She will come back, right?" He looked at his elder brother, hoping to hear the answer he longed for.
"I can’t be certain whether she will come back, but if you continue like this, I’m sure that even if she returns one day and sees you in such a state, she will certainly reject you outright." Easton knew what Thomas hoped for, but he had no intention of speaking along the lines of Thomas’s hopes, choosing instead to go against them.
