Chapter 723: The First Test Subject in Danger - Jiang Ran
Chapter 723: The First Test Subject in Danger - Jiang Ran
Listening to the danger warning in his mind, his right foot, already stepping forward, froze in mid-air.The corner of Jiang Ran's mouth twitched fiercely.
Then he muttered a complaint: "Even if you give me a danger warning right now and crank it up to 10, is there any way I can turn around and go back to Hua Country from here?"
Shaking his head in speechless frustration, Jiang Ran stepped into Aisen Town.
Going to a foreign country, whether for travel or work, there's definitely a sense of novelty.
Especially when you're someone from an Eastern country going to a Western country, or vice versa. You can experience completely different cultures, completely different architectural styles, and all kinds of brand-new things.
Just looking at the Aisen Town Jiang Ran saw before him, there were plenty of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and other ancient architectural styles.
This matched exactly what he had found online about Aisen Town—it truly was a town with a long history.
However, Jiang Ran had no mood to appreciate Aisen Town's scenery right now. His only goal was to get to the hotel quickly, lie down on the bed in his room, and get a good night's sleep. He needed to adjust to the time difference.
It was currently 7 PM in Germany, while back in Hua Country, it was 2 AM.
The hotel Manager Wu Meiling had booked for Jiang Ran was called the 25 Hours Hotel.
Following the Google Maps he had downloaded, Jiang Ran finally found the hotel and successfully entered.
Once inside, he went to the front desk, handed over his passport and other identity verification documents to a female staff member, and used his phone's translation app to state his purpose.
Germany's official language is German, that goes without saying. It's their native tongue. Beyond that, Germans generally speak English as well. So, if you know English, you can get around Germany just fine without knowing German.
Unfortunately, Jiang Ran was no good at either German or English.
Luckily, the female staff member at the hotel's front desk had plenty of patience. After listening to Jiang Ran's explanation, she quickly found his registration information, checked him in, and handed him his room card.
But what didn't sit well with Jiang Ran was what the translation app conveyed from the front desk staff. The room he had booked in advance was a double-bed room. However, because the hotel was fully booked with guests, there was another guest already staying in his room.
Jiang Ran was speechless. How was this so similar to what happened on Macedonia Island?
The main issue was that a stranger would be sleeping in the same room as him. He couldn't fall asleep peacefully like that.
He had seen posts online about hostels abroad where men and women shared rooms, and apparently it was quite common.
But if it were him, staying in that kind of mixed-gender, multi-person hostel would definitely take some getting used to.
It wasn't that he was afraid of anything else, mainly he was worried about thieves stealing his phone while he was asleep.
Jiang Ran's room was 507.
He arrived at the door of 507, swiped the room card to unlock it, and then pushed the door open.
As the door swung open, he immediately saw the double bed inside the room.
On the right side of the bed, sitting on the snow-white sheets, was a white man in his thirties with blonde hair and blue eyes. He was packing his things on the bed.
The sound of the door opening caught the attention of this thirty-something white man. He looked up toward Jiang Ran, and upon seeing him, gave a polite smile.
Jiang Ran returned the smile, though his was a bit forced.
He took a few steps forward, closed the door to room 507, and then heard the danger warning system sound again.
[Beep. Dangerous individual detected. Points +7! Points +7! Points...]
Son of a bitch.
Jiang Ran was absolutely cursing his luck right now.
What was going on? Was he some kind of walking disaster? He went to Macedonia Island, and Macedonia Island triggered a danger warning.
He came to Aisen Town, and Aisen Town triggered a danger warning. Fine, let's say Aisen Town itself was dangerous. Then he comes to stay in a hotel here, and the guy sharing his room is also dangerous.
Was there any way to live? Was there any way for him to live?
Jiang Ran was speechless. His eyelids felt incredibly heavy, his whole body was weak and exhausted. He just wanted to sleep well and adjust to the time difference. How was he supposed to sleep peacefully now?
"No way. I have to switch rooms."
Jiang Ran thought to himself, and he first placed his luggage on the left bed.
Then he left room 507 and went all the way down to the first floor. Once there, he asked the young female front desk staff to change his room. He was told there were no spare rooms available for him to switch to.
Jiang Ran had no choice. He sent a message to Manager Wu Meiling, asking if she could help him change hotels or something.
Manager Wu Meiling naturally asked, puzzled, why he wanted to change hotels.
Jiang Ran couldn't exactly say that he had a system and that his system had told him the white man sharing his room was dangerous.
So he had to make up an excuse, saying that the white man in his room had a strong body odor. Didn't all white people and black people have body odor or underarm stench anyway? He used that as his excuse.
Manager Wu Meiling was very sympathetic to Jiang Ran's excuse, but she still added a note. No, there weren't many hotels or inns in Aisen Town to begin with.
When she booked for him, all the other places were full. This one was the only one with an open spot. So switching was impossible unless Jiang Ran was willing to sleep on the streets.
Speechless, Jiang Ran hung up the phone. He made his way back to room 507 in frustration.
When he returned to room 507, the thirty-something white man was still packing his things. Seeing Jiang Ran come back, he said:
"Hello, my name is Derby. I'm from the UK. Where are you from?"
Blah blah blah, Jiang Ran couldn't understand a word, even though he could tell it was English.
So, with no other choice, he pulled out his phone and used the friendly machine translation.
After translating, he replied.
"My name is Jiang Ran. I'm from Hua Country."
"Oh, I see. I've never been to Hua Country. I've heard it's a very beautiful country with a long culture and history. One day, I'll travel there."
This white man named Derby seemed to smile a lot.
At the same time, he had an upbeat, sunny aura about him.
If Jiang Ran didn't have the Danger Warning System, he really would have thought this was just a very travel-loving person.
Jiang Ran briefly organized his luggage, then took out his change of clothes, ready to take a shower first.
Of course, while showering, he was still thinking about whether he should stay in this room or do something else.
Being in a foreign country was so hard.
After thinking it over, Jiang Ran recalled his experiences at Alice Apartment. Every time he attended a welcome party, his mind almost exploded from all the warnings from the Danger Warning System.
They were all just a bunch of "+X +X" alerts. Although they warned him, those people never actually made a move against him. Now, it seemed he could only gamble that this white man named Derby, dangerous as he was, wouldn't make a move against him either.
