Chapter 301 - 300: Guy has lost his Youth
Chapter 301 - 300: Guy has lost his Youth
Gladion sat in his personal office, a notebook open in front of him and his team's Poke Balls arranged neatly on the desk. The upcoming battle against Sabrina was on his mind.Gladion mumbled to himself as he considered his lineup. "Since it is Sabrina, I should not be very overconfident for the battle. So Colossus is a must in the team. He is itching for a good fight. But with him, I am assured that I would be winning no matter what is the outcome of the other fights. He is also part dark type, so that gives an advantage against psychic types."
He tapped his pen on the notebook. "The same is true for Nyx. So that makes her the second choice."
Gladion thought for a moment about the nature of type specialists. 'This is one weakness of type specialists. A general trainer knows what type of Pokémon a type specialist would use and could just use Pokémon that are strong against that type. Though at our level, type advantage does not matter that much since we teach our Pokémon moves to counter their weaknesses, but it is still a factor that would give a trainer an advantage.'
He continued planning. "Mystique would be a good choice for battle. I do not think I should include Guy in the fight."
As if summoned by Gladion's words, Guy popped out of his Poke Ball on his own. The muscular Machamp stood tall with tears already forming in his big eyes. He made the cutest possible expression, puffing out his cheeks and looking up with wide, watery eyes.
"You… can't do this," Guy said, his voice trembling. "I also want to show the power of youth. I also want to fight."
Gladion sighed and rubbed his forehead. Guy stepped closer and tilted his head, making the Baby-Doll Eyes even stronger. The four-armed Pokémon clasped two hands together in front of his chest while the other two hung sadly at his sides.
"Please…" Guy added, his lower lip quivering. "I have been training so hard. My fists are ready. My spirit is burning with the fire of youth. Do not leave me on the bench like some forgotten training dummy. I want to smash psychic types and show them the power of youth!"
Gladion tried to stay firm but found it difficult. "You do not go using Baby-Doll Eyes on me. You should not even be knowing that move. It is Nyx that taught you that, did she not? I swear she needs a good spanking one of these days. Stop looking at me like that. It is not fair."
Guy did not stop. He dropped to his knees, all four arms spread out in a pleading gesture. "But… please. I promise I will not break my opponent this time. I will be gentle. I will use only fifty percent of my youth power. Just let me fight one psychic Pokémon. I want to suplex a slowbro. Or maybe a hypno. Please, Master. My heart is breaking into tiny pieces."
Gladion shook his head,"You had your fun against Bruno. Now let us give others some chance to show off and have a good time."
Guy sighed deeply, his shoulders slumping. "Fine. It seems like my youth has faded." He stood up slowly, head hanging low, and walked away with heavy steps. Every few feet he let out a loud sigh. "The fire inside me grows cold… Youth… why have you abandoned me…"
Gladion just shook his head at the drama queen. Guy disappeared around the corner, still sighing loudly enough for the entire gym to hear.
Gladion returned to his notebook. He thought of the final three Pokémon. 'Eldergreen has not gotten a chance to fight yet. So he is up. Hisoka is up as well. And finally… the Pokémon that would be my surprise like every battle that I do.'
'It would be fun to finally reveal himself to the world. And I think that Grandpa would also have loved to see him in action against her,' Gladion thought with a smile.
'Now with that decided. Let us move on to the business. This thing would get me both money as well as a lot of goodwill with people.' Gladion thought as he looked at the laptop screen.
On it was written "Life Insurance."
Yup, Gladion was entering the insurance business. In fact, he was starting it. He was going to be providing life insurance for trainers.
In a world like the Pokémon world, which was very dangerous, death was a likely threat. Many trainers died at the start of their journey while exploring dangerous routes or facing strong wild Pokémon. Others passed away later when they became rangers, joined the army, or continued challenging powerful Pokemon even after becoming champions or gym leaders. Families were often left behind with nothing but memories and grief.
With this insurance, trainers could rest assured about their family's well-being. If something happened to them, their loved ones would receive a large sum of money to live comfortably. Gladion would be able to get a lot of income from the premiums paid every month. It was a win-win situation. Trainers got peace of mind, and Vortex Industries gained a steady, reliable revenue stream.
Gladion leaned back in his chair and imagined the possibilities. 'Oh, how much I am going to make. Trainers are reckless by nature. The mortality rate in this profession is higher than most people realize. Once I start advertising this, people will line up to sign up. I can already see the commercials, a young trainer hugging his family before leaving on a journey, with soft music playing. Then the voiceover says, "Don't leave them behind without protection. Get Vortex Life Insurance today." It is going to sell like hot Poffins.'
Gladion chuckled to himself. 'The best part is that I do not even have to lie. The world really is dangerous. I am not creating fear. I am offering real security. And if some trainers think twice before doing something stupid because they now have a policy, that is just an added bonus. Insurance for trainers. I cannot believe no one thought of this earlier. Or maybe they did, but no one had the resources and reputation to make it work on a large scale. Now I do.'
He started typing out the basic plan on his laptop. Different packages for beginners, intermediate trainers, and elite trainers. Higher coverage for those who become gym leaders or Elite Four members.
Special discounts for people who keep their Pokémon healthy and attend regular check-ups. The more he wrote, the more excited he became. This was not just business. This was something that could genuinely help a lot of families across Indigo and eventually other regions.
