Chapter 2021 Winter Arrives
Chapter 2021 Winter Arrives
"Huh? But I checked the weather forecast, and the next few days are all sunny."
Zhao Feifei looked puzzled.
As she spoke, she didn't forget to take out her phone from her pocket and double-check.
Yang Feng didn't explain, but simply said, "Prepare some warmer clothes for me tonight."
"Are you cold?"
"It will come in handy."
Just as Yang Feng was speaking, a gust of wind blew by.
This gust of wind carried the last warmth of this world, allowing Yang Feng to close his eyes in bliss.
But soon, he was awakened by a noisy sound in the distance.
They are those who are blocked outside the city's perimeter and want to come in seeking refuge.
The people of Shanhe had no intention of opening the barrier; in fact, they even infused it with special spiritual power.
Anyone who touched the barrier had their hand instantly melted, and was now rolling on the ground screaming in agony.
For the people of Shanhe, all of this seems to be just a form of amusement.
On the other side of the barrier, their smiles grew even more arrogant.
Zhao Feifei seemed to have seen this scene as well.
She's become much bolder these past two days, and she can tolerate much more cruelty.
Even so, an angry expression still appeared on her face.
She looked at Yang Feng and noticed that his expression had also changed slightly, with hatred in his eyes.
Zhao Feifei was somewhat surprised.
In her eyes, someone of Yang Feng's stature should no longer be affected by such things.
“Mr. Yang, you...you seem quite different from what I imagined.”
Zhao Feifei said.
Yang Feng turned his head, no longer looking outside the barrier, but looking in another direction of the city: "Is there any difference?"
"I always thought you were someone who never showed your emotions, just like the reclusive masters in TV dramas."
Zhao Feifei's mind was also filled with images from the movies and TV shows she had watched.
Those were all highly accomplished individuals who remained calm and composed even when faced with a collapsing mountain.
Yet the truly top-tier expert before them possessed such emotions.
Yang Feng shook his head: "I once said something like this to a friend. Perhaps girls your age all have this kind of fantasy."
"what does it mean?"
"If one can remain calm and composed when faced with injustice in the world, it is only because of apathy."
Yang Feng suddenly looked up at Zhao Feifei beside him and asked, "I see that you are also changing little by little now."
"I……"
Zhao Feifei kept her head down.
Yang Feng took a deep breath and said, "When you see too many things, you become numb. Like what you've seen these past few days, it's shocked you so much that you won't be frightened by these things anymore, right?"
"Um……"
Looking back, Zhao Feifei realized that Yang Feng was right.
"Those things are inherently cruel; you've seen so much of them that you've forgotten their cruel nature."
As Yang Feng spoke, he said, "Just like those people outside who want to come in, they are miserable, but because there have been too many similar tragedies in the past few days, many people have become numb and seem to think that all of this is normal."
"what do you mean……"
"Not showing one's emotions should not be the highest moral standard for judging a person, because it is not necessarily a good thing for a person not to be angry."
As Yang Feng spoke, he lowered his head and said, "I don't want to become so numb one day that I forget the true nature of this world..."
It's unclear whether he was saying this to Zhao Feifei or to himself.
Zhao Feifei sensed Yang Feng's change in mood and remained silent.
As the sun completely set.
Day and night alternate.
Yang Feng also asked her to push him back to the ward.
In the ward.
There's already a chill in the air.
After staying outside for a while, Yang Feng felt that his mood seemed to have improved.
My body has recovered somewhat; at least I can feel some strength in my hands.
However, it's unclear how long it will take for a full recovery.
Yang Feng lay down on the hospital bed and turned on the TV.
The young nurse, Zhao Feifei, stood guard beside him.
She didn't know what Yang Feng was thinking, but she noticed that his eyes were constantly fixed on the television.
"You should also prepare a thicker coat for yourself."
Yang Feng suddenly said to her.
Zhao Feifei was taken aback, not knowing what Yang Feng meant.
But what she didn't know was that the cold had already quietly begun to descend upon the world.
A lighthearted variety show was playing on TV, and the noisy laughter filled the quiet ward, creating a false sense of liveliness.
Yang Feng's gaze fell on the screen, yet it seemed to penetrate the dazzling images, looking towards a more distant and empty place.
Zhao Feifei responded, still pondering Yang Feng's seemingly random reminder.
She walked to the window to check the sky, her fingertips accidentally touching the metal window frame.
"hiss……"
She took a deep breath and quickly withdrew her hand.
So cold! It felt like touching a piece of iron that had been frozen outdoors overnight.
But now… she glanced at the digital clock on the wall to confirm the season and time.
This is not reasonable.
Almost simultaneously, the continuous low hum of airflow from the central air conditioning vents on the ceiling of the ward stopped without warning.
It didn't gradually weaken; it came to an abrupt end. A deeper silence instantly took over the room, making even the laughter from the television sound jarring and weak.
Yang Feng shifted his gaze from the television to the air vent that had stopped blowing air. He didn't speak, but simply pulled the not-too-thick blanket over himself up to his chest.
Then, he reached out and gently touched the cold metal edge of the bedside table with the back of his fingers.
A clear, sharp chill pierced through my fingertips, much colder and faster than when I touched them before.
The TV screen flickered suddenly, the variety show was interrupted, and it switched to a live news broadcast.
The background appears to be a normally warm city street. Strange white particles are falling on the anchor's hair and shoulders. He speaks faster than usual and looks tense. Pedestrians can be seen jogging while wrapped tightly in their clothes in the background.
The news anchor's voice came through intermittently: "Breaking news... unusually cold weather... reported in multiple locations... please..."
Zhao Feifei finally realized something and turned her head sharply to look at Yang Feng.
Yang Feng remained lying quietly, his gaze returning to the chaotic scene on the television screen.
His face appeared remarkably calm, even somewhat knowing, in the increasingly cold light of the ward.
The chill was no longer just a sensation on the skin. It settled down, landed on the floor, seeped into the walls, and lingered in every breath.
The breath I exhaled condensed into a thicker, slower-dissipating white mist before my eyes. On the half-full glass of water on the bedside table, a very subtle, almost invisible stagnation seemed to be rising from the surface.
Outside the window, leaden clouds hung low, swallowing the last rays of sunlight. One, two... countless tiny, hard white crystals began to fall sparsely and silently against the glass, making a soft, rustling sound.
Those weren't romantic snowflakes for winter.
It was a silent, chilling blanket that swept across the entire world.
The sound coming from the television was being interfered with by increasingly loud snow noise.
This is not an isolated case.
Because at this moment, the whole world is experiencing the same thing...
